Molotov Attack on Detainee’s Window in Alberone, Rome: Son of Boss Fragalà Targeted
Rome, April 2, 2026 – A molotov cocktail was thrown at an apartment window in the Alberone district of Rome, targeting the residence of a man under house arrest. The rudimentary explosive device detonated, awakening several residents in the Appio Latino area who subsequently contacted emergency services. The apartment was occupied by Emanuele Fragalà, a 26-year-old Roman, who is currently under house arrest for drug-related offenses.
The Son of Salvatore Fragalà
Emanuele Fragalà is the son of Salvatore Fragalà, a prominent figure who was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2021. This conviction followed the ‘Equilibri’ investigation, which in 2019 dismantled a mafia-type criminal organization operating between Rome and Catania, leading to 31 arrests. The elder Fragalà, now 47, was identified by investigators as the leader of the organization in the absence of his uncle Alessandro Fragalà (sentenced to 26 years). Salvatore Fragalà, along with his uncle, was considered an organizer and manager of the group’s Sicilian components and was found responsible for drug trafficking and aggravated extortion.
Operation Equilibri
The ‘Equilibri’ operation revealed how the mafia had extended its influence into the Roman metropolitan area, particularly in the municipalities of Ardea, Pomezia, and Torvaianica, through bombings, threats, kidnappings, severe intimidation, extortion, and drug trafficking. According to investigators’ reconstructions during the probe that led to 31 arrests, the Fragalà clan had created a climate of heavy intimidation against local merchants and entrepreneurs, forcing them to endure extortion through bombings and threats.
Molotov at Alberone
Carabinieri responded to the scene around 2:00 AM on the night of April 1-2 in the VII municipality. Upon arrival, officers from the Rome Piazza Dante company found broken glass and other damage caused by the incendiary bottle’s explosion, which was launched against the window of Emanuele Fragalà’s apartment. No one was injured in the incident.
Unexploded Incendiary Bottle Found
A short distance away, another unexploded bottle was discovered. It had a firecracker attached with adhesive tape and contained gasoline, indicating a potentially more widespread attack.
Carabinieri Investigations Underway
Carabinieri from the investigative unit of Via in Selci arrived at the scene to conduct forensic examinations. Bomb disposal experts were also present. At this time, no hypothesis has been ruled out. Security camera footage from the area could provide crucial evidence for the investigation. Emanuele Fragalà, questioned while under house arrest for drug offenses, did not provide investigators with any useful information.
