Milan to Host Widespread Protests Against ‘Remigration Summit’ on April 18th
Milan, April 3, 2026 – A significant public mobilization is set to take place in Milan on April 18th, directly confronting the ‘Remigration Summit’ organized by European Patriot groups, which includes the Lega party, in Duomo Square. The ‘No CPR’ network has announced a day of action under the banner ‘Milan is Migrant,’ with the prominent slogan ‘Racists and Fascists Out of Milan.’
The protest aims to challenge the summit’s agenda, which advocates for policies of ‘remigration,’ a term critics argue is a euphemism for mass deportations. The ‘No CPR’ network emphasizes Milan’s diverse identity, stating, “Milan is great because it is home to many peoples. Not only the Brambillas but Greco, Radu, Garcia, Murat, Diop, families who have arrived from Southern Italy, from the Mediterranean, from overseas, and from the Balkans.”
A City of Many Cultures and Languages
The network’s statement highlights Milan’s multicultural fabric: “In Milan, 100 languages are spoken, one eats polenta but also couscous, zighinì, arroz chaufa, mafe, soy spaghetti, and nigiri. One listens to Jannacci but also salsa, afrobeat, reggaeton, hip hop, trap, and K-pop.” This vibrant diversity stands in stark contrast to the ‘remigration’ policies promoted by right-wing and far-right parties across Europe.
Critics argue that these policies, often presented as ‘repatriations,’ are designed to fuel fear and invest in repression rather than ensuring adequate living conditions for all, including young people, the elderly, and those fleeing war and poverty. The ‘No CPR’ network specifically targets the European Pact on Migration and Asylum, which includes repatriation regulations already approved by the European Parliament with the votes of populist and right-wing groups.
Public Assembly to Prepare for Mobilization
To prepare for the April 18th demonstration, a public assembly is scheduled for April 8th at 7:30 PM at Statale. This meeting will serve to coordinate efforts and finalize the details of the widespread mobilization, ensuring a unified and impactful protest against the ‘Remigration Summit.’
The upcoming protests underscore a growing tension in Milan between proponents of inclusive, multicultural policies and those advocating for stricter immigration controls and ‘remigration’ strategies. The city, known for its cosmopolitan character, is poised to become a focal point in the broader European debate on migration and cultural identity.
