Milan Marathon: A Record-Breaking 24th Edition with International Flair
Milan, 13 March – The 24th edition of the Wizz Air Milan Marathon, organized by Rcs Sports & Events, was officially presented yesterday at Palazzo Marino. The event, scheduled for April 12, 2026, is set to be a record-breaking spectacle, aiming for 15,000 participants and a significant charity fundraising goal.
Ambitious Goals and International Appeal
With one month to go until the main event, the Wizz Air Milan Marathon has already registered 14,000 participants, with an ambitious target of 15,000. This marks a substantial increase from the 10,250 participants in the previous year. A notable 65% of the entries are from international runners, up from 56% last year, highlighting the marathon’s growing global appeal. In addition to the main race, the UniCredit Relay Marathon is expected to attract 16,000 relay runners forming 4,000 teams. This relay race, which divides the 42.195 km official course into four legs, aims to raise 2 million euros for charity through the Rete del Dono platform, surpassing the 1.8 million euros raised in 2025.
A Celebration for the City: New Route and Expanded Program
Paolo Bellino, CEO and General Manager of Rcs Sports & Events, expressed his pride in the event’s evolution. “I am particularly proud of the work done in recent years. This year, we have once again managed to create a very fast, unprecedented route that touches beautiful points of the city, from the Arco della Pace to Piazza del Duomo,” said Bellino. He added, “Having 15,000 participants in the marathon seemed like a dream four years ago. Our next goal is to exceed 20,000. It will be an incredible celebration for the city; we have put together a fantastic program of events, which in addition to the marathon includes the UniCredit Relay Marathon, Enel Family Run, Arcaplanet Dog Run, and an even richer Milano Running Festival.”
A significant change for this year’s 42.195 km race is the new linear route, replacing the traditional looped course.
Event Schedule and International Participation
The festivities will commence on Thursday, April 9, with the Milano Running Festival, which will run until Sunday. Saturday’s events include the Enel Family Run starting at 9:00 AM, followed by the Arcaplanet Dog Run at 3:00 PM. The main event, the Wizz Air Milano Marathon, will kick off on Sunday at 8:15 AM, with the UniCredit Relay Marathon starting at 9:15 AM.
Luca Onofrio, Head of Mass Events at Rcs Sports & Events, emphasized the marathon’s increasing international stature. “The Wizz Air Milano Marathon confirms itself year after year as an increasingly international event. This edition currently has participants from 115 nations, a figure that adds to the record number of foreign participants. It is a growing event that has pushed us to find a new location for the start, which for the first time will be from Corso Sempione with the Arco della Pace as a backdrop,” Onofrio stated. He also highlighted the continued strong participation of charities in the UniCredit Relay Marathon, expressing hope for a new fundraising record.
Radio Kiss Kiss has been announced as the new Radio Partner for the Wizz Air Milano Marathon.
