Metro Tram Construction Accelerated to Secure PNRR Funds: Changes to Milan’s Tram 7 Service

Milan, March 9, 2026 – Construction work for the new metro tram line in Milan, specifically in the Adriano district, has been fast-tracked to ensure the retention of crucial PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) funding. As a result, Milan’s public transport company, ATM, has announced significant modifications to the tram Line 7 service, effective from today, Monday, March 9th.

The decision to accelerate the project, which involves connecting the Adriano district with Cascina Gobba, was made to meet the PNRR funding deadlines, with the completion of the connection anticipated by summer. This strategic move aims to prevent the loss of essential financial resources for the city’s infrastructure development.

What Changes for Commuters from March 9th?

From Monday, March 9th, and continuing until summer, tram Line 7 will operate on a revised route. Trams departing from Piazzale Lagosta will now terminate at the Tremelloni Anassagora stop, where they will turn around and commence their return journey. Consequently, the following stops will not be served by tram Line 7:

  • Tremelloni-Gassman
  • Tremelloni-Tognazzi
  • Adriano-Lussu
  • Adriano-Vipiteno

To mitigate the impact of these changes on commuters, bus Line 86 will see an enhanced service, particularly between the Adriano district and the city’s metro stations. This reinforcement aims to provide alternative transport options for affected passengers.

Recommended Routes for Travelers

From Piazzale Lagosta towards the Adriano District:

  • Passengers are advised to alight from tram Line 7 at the temporary terminus, Tremelloni Anassagora, and then transfer to bus Line 86 or 86/ (barred) from the Tremelloni Ponte Nuovo stop.
  • Alternatively, commuters can get off tram Line 7 at the Precotto stop and take bus Line 86 from the Via Rucellai stop.

From the Adriano District towards Piazzale Lagosta:

  • Passengers should alight from bus Line 86 or 86/ (barred) at the Tremelloni Ponte Nuovo stop and then board tram Line 7 from the temporary terminus, Tremelloni Anassagora.
  • Another option is to get off bus Line 86 at the Via Pelitti stop and then take tram Line 7 from the Precotto stop.

These adjustments are temporary and are expected to remain in place until the summer, when the connection between the Adriano district and Cascina Gobba is scheduled for completion. ATM urges all commuters to plan their journeys accordingly and to consult the latest service updates for detailed information.

The accelerated works underscore the city’s commitment to leveraging PNRR funds for critical urban development projects, ensuring that Milan’s public transport network continues to evolve and meet the demands of its growing population.
