Violent Attack on Public Bus in Rome’s San Basilio District
Rome, March 30 – A routine bus journey on Rome’s 444 line turned into a scene of violence late last night when a man was repeatedly stabbed after an argument escalated. The incident, which occurred around 11:45 PM in Viale del Casale di San Basilio, left one man seriously injured and led to the immediate arrest of the assailant.
Altercation Leads to Stabbing
According to initial reconstructions, a seemingly trivial discussion between two passengers quickly degenerated. A 33-year-old Filipino man, with no prior criminal record, reportedly pulled out a bladed weapon and struck the 39-year-old victim five times. The attack unfolded in front of other passengers, leaving blood on the bus floor.
The rapid intervention of the Carabinieri Nucleo Radiomobile, who were conducting patrols in the area, allowed them to apprehend the attacker shortly after the incident. The weapon was found still in the 33-year-old’s hand and has since been seized.
Victim in Red Code, Assailant Arrested for Attempted Murder
Emergency medical personnel from 118 immediately attended to the victim, who was then rushed in ‘red code’ to Policlinico Umberto I. Despite the severity of the wounds, which required urgent hospitalization, doctors have confirmed that the man’s life is not in danger.
The assailant has been arrested and charged with attempted murder. Following instructions from the Judicial Authority, he was transferred to the Regina Coeli prison.
