Man Electrocuted in Porta di Roma Electrical Cabin. Suspected Copper Theft Causes Power Outage.
Rome, February 6, 2026 – A man was severely injured after being electrocuted in an electrical cabin in the Porta di Roma area of northeast Rome early Thursday morning. The incident, which occurred in via Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, led to significant power outages affecting residential buildings and commercial establishments for several hours.
The alarm was raised at approximately 6:00 AM on Thursday, February 5th, when emergency services were called to via Carlo Ludovico Bragaglia, a road connecting the Vigne Nuove area to the Parco delle Sabine in the III Montesacro Municipality. Rescuers found an unidentified man suffering from severe burns across various parts of his body.
Emergency Response and Hospitalization
Initially, an air ambulance was requested, but the injured man was subsequently transported by ambulance to Sant’Andrea Hospital by 118 personnel. The immediate priority was to secure the area and provide medical attention to the victim.
Following the rescue, firefighters and carabinieri from the Nuovo Salario station arrived at the scene to investigate. The primary question remains why the man was inside the electrical cabin. Among the hypotheses, the most accredited at present is an attempted theft of copper, a common occurrence given the rising value of the metal. However, other possibilities have not been ruled out as investigations continue.
Widespread Power Outages
The incident caused a significant disruption to the local power supply. Several apartment buildings and commercial businesses in the Porta di Roma area experienced electricity blackouts. Technicians from Areti, the local electricity distributor, were immediately dispatched to the site to restore power. They worked for several hours to repair the damage and ensure the safe resumption of electricity to the affected areas. As of the time of reporting, technicians were still completing their work to fully restore service.
The incident highlights the dangers associated with unauthorized access to electrical infrastructure and the ongoing issue of copper theft, which not only poses a risk to those involved but also disrupts essential services for the community.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the injured man, and further details regarding his condition are awaited. The investigation by the carabinieri is ongoing to ascertain the exact circumstances leading to the electrocution and to determine if any criminal activity was involved.
