Arson at Marano di Napoli Justice of the Peace Offices: 32-Year-Old Arrested

Naples, Campania, Italy, March 22, 2026 – A 32-year-old man from Giugliano in Campania has been arrested on suspicion of arson, following a fire at the Justice of the Peace offices in Marano di Napoli. The incident occurred on the night of February 24, and the arrest was made possible through an investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Napoli Nord and conducted by the Guardia di Finanza.

The Investigation and Arrest

The operation commenced after the fire broke out at the Justice of the Peace offices. Firefighters promptly responded, preventing more extensive damage to the structure. Officers from the Giugliano in Campania Group of the Guardia di Finanza, who had previously been involved in the seizure of the building due to serious safety violations, arrived at the scene immediately. Initial assessments quickly indicated the deliberate nature of the fire, pointing towards a premeditated act.

Reconstruction of the Incident

Investigators meticulously reconstructed the events using surveillance footage from cameras located near the offices. The footage revealed that between 1:50 AM and 2:40 AM on February 24, two masked individuals scaled the side of the building to reach a first-floor window. After breaking the window, they poured an accelerant from a canister into the room and ignited it, causing the fire to spread rapidly.

Further investigation, aided by surveillance cameras on major city arteries, tracked the suspects’ escape in a car immediately after the crime.

Evidence Collected by Investigators

The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of Napoli Nord authorized an immediate search of the suspect’s home. During the search, investigators discovered clothing consistent with that worn by the perpetrators on the night of the fire. In the trunk of the suspect’s car, a canister identical in shape, color, and size to the one seen in the surveillance footage was found. Although designed for diesel engine additives, the canister still emitted a strong smell of gasoline, reinforcing the investigators’ suspicions.

Based on this compelling evidence, the Preliminary Investigation Judge (GIP) at the Court of Napoli Nord issued a pre-trial detention order for the 32-year-old man from Giugliano in Campania.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat crime in the region and bring those responsible to justice. The investigation into the motive behind the arson and the potential involvement of other individuals is ongoing.
