Man Taken into Custody After Standoff at Collier County Apartment
Collier County, April 5, 2026 – A man was taken into custody on Friday after a prolonged standoff at the Lago Apartments, located at the intersection of Radio Road and Livingston Road in Collier County. The incident, which began in the morning, was safely resolved without injury.
Deputies Respond to Threats
Collier County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) deputies were dispatched to the Lago Apartments at 9:25 a.m. on Friday following reports of a man making threats. The individual, identified as 60-year-old Peter Hooker, reportedly resides at the complex.
Upon arrival, deputies located Hooker at his apartment. However, he refused to comply with their commands to exit and subsequently barricaded himself inside his residence. Authorities expressed concern that Hooker might have been armed, escalating the situation.
Hours-Long Standoff and Evacuations
The standoff lasted for several hours, during which deputies utilized various tactics, including distraction devices that reportedly sounded like gunshots, to encourage Hooker’s surrender. Throughout the negotiation process, Hooker refused to emerge from his apartment.
As a precautionary measure, surrounding areas of the Lago Apartments were evacuated. Additionally, both northbound and southbound lanes of Livingston Road, from Enterprise Avenue to Radio Road, were shut down for several hours to ensure public safety and facilitate law enforcement operations. These roads have since been reopened.
Residents expressed concern during the incident. One resident stated, “When I first saw it, I was like, oh, my God, like him believe is happening right now. Throughout the negotiating process, refused to come out. We are law enforcement on the loudspeaker communicating with him. Drones were also flying in the air. How long is this going to go for? So I start getting a little concerned, you know, simply because I love I know a lot of people in the area and I was just hoping that everybody to be safe.” Another resident added, “It’s definitely scary for sure, but I’m glad that everybody was safe at the end.”
Arrest and Charges
Hooker eventually surrendered and was taken into custody. He is facing charges of written threats to kill, do bodily injury, or conduct a mass shooting or an act of terrorism, according to the Collier County Sheriff’s Office.
A mug shot of Hooker from a previous arrest in January shows he reportedly violated a restraining order. The address listed on that arrest report was also within the Lago Apartment complex.
Official Statement
Sheriff Kevin Rambosk commended the deputies involved in the operation. “This was a complex and evolving situation, and our deputies addressed it with professionalism from start to finish,” Sheriff Rambosk stated. “I also want to thank the public for their cooperation and patience as first responders worked to bring this to a peaceful conclusion.”
