Milan, February 27, 2026 – Lidl Italy, a leading large-scale retail company, celebrated a significant milestone today with the inauguration of its 800th store in Milan, located at Viale Corsica 21. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures including Federico Romani, President of the Regional Council of Lombardy; Alessandro Giungi, Vice President of the Education and Food Policy Commission of the Municipality of Milan; and Stefano Bianco, President of Municipality 4 of Milan.
Rapid Expansion Across Italy
The ribbon-cutting in Milan is part of an ambitious development plan that has seen Lidl Italy open 23 new stores across the country in just the last seven weeks. Eleven of these new locations opened today alone, spanning from North to South. In addition to Milan, new stores were inaugurated in Gorizia, Villa Guardia (Co), Villa D’Almè (Bergamo), Verona, Lido Adriano (Ravenna), Foligno (Perugia), Rome, Taranto, Barletta, and Elmas (Caserta).
Since the beginning of the year, Lidl Italy has invested over €220 million in these projects, resulting in the creation of more than 320 new jobs. This rapid growth underscores the company’s commitment to strengthening its presence in the Italian market.
A Journey Towards 1,000 Stores
Emilio Arduino, Managing Director of Real Estate Development and Central Services for Lidl Italy, reflected on the company’s journey: “When we opened our first store in Italy in 1992, we started with a conviction: to reach an ever-increasing number of customers with our formula, characterized by the best quality-price ratio. Store after store, that conviction has become reality. Today, we’re celebrating more than just a milestone; we’re celebrating the entire journey we’ve traveled to get here and building momentum to reach the next milestone: 1,000 stores by 2030.”
Lidl Italy currently holds a 6% market share in the national large-scale retail trade. The company has outlined a three-year development plan involving a €1.5 billion investment for the construction of an additional 150 new stores. Its sales network is supported by 12 logistics hubs strategically located across Italy, contributing 0.4% to the national GDP and supporting approximately 100,000 jobs.
Milan: A Strategic Hub for Lidl Italy
Milan remains a crucial market for Lidl Italy, evidenced by its dedicated real estate structure focused on identifying prime local expansion opportunities. Recent openings in the city include locations on Via Polidoro da Caravaggio, Via Padova, and Via Maestri Campionesi earlier this week. The new Viale Corsica store is the 26th Lidl outlet in Milan, each developed with a thoughtful approach that integrates private investment with urban redevelopment, aiming to generate tangible added value for the local area without further land consumption.
The Viale Corsica store, acquired through a business unit transaction, has maintained the employment contracts of its 33 existing employees, who are now part of the Lidl workforce. This store, which previously operated under a different brand until June of last year, boasts 1,500 square meters of sales space, making it the largest Lidl store in Italy.
Commitment to Sustainability
In line with the latest corporate standards for environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, the new Viale Corsica store is supplied with 100% renewable energy. It is also equipped with an LED lighting system that guarantees 50% savings compared to traditional technologies, reflecting Lidl Italy’s commitment to eco-friendly practices.
