Milan, February 1 – A young homeless man was found dead in Piazza Luigi di Savoia, adjacent to Milan’s Central Station, on Sunday morning. The discovery was made by railway police officers shortly before 8:00 AM. Medical personnel, including an ambulance and a medical car, arrived at the scene but could only confirm the man’s death.

Investigation into the Death of a Homeless Man in Milan

The man, believed to be between 25 and 30 years old, was found in a makeshift bed on the pavement near a kiosk in the square. He had no identification documents on him. Preliminary examinations by medical staff revealed no signs of violence, leading investigators to suspect that he succumbed to a sudden illness during the night.

Authorities, coordinated by public prosecutor Stefano Ammendola, conducted a thorough investigation of the scene with the Scientific Police and the Mobile Squad. Despite the ongoing inquiries, there is little doubt that natural causes were responsible for the death.

Efforts to Identify the Victim

Investigators are now working with various associations that assist the homeless in Milan, hoping to identify the deceased. The lack of personal documents makes this a challenging task.

This tragic incident marks the fourth death of a homeless person on the streets of Milan since the beginning of the year. The most recent previous case occurred on January 16 in Via Padova.

A Growing Concern: Homeless Deaths in Milan

The recurring incidents highlight a pressing social issue in Milan. The city’s cold winter nights and lack of adequate shelter can pose severe risks to vulnerable individuals living on the streets. Advocacy groups and social workers have consistently called for increased support and resources for the homeless population.

Community and Official Response

The death has once again brought attention to the plight of the homeless in Milan. While the immediate focus is on identifying the individual and understanding the precise circumstances of his death, the broader conversation about homelessness and the support systems in place is expected to intensify.

The municipality and various non-profit organizations continue to operate shelters and provide assistance, but the increasing number of deaths suggests that current measures may be insufficient to address the scale of the problem effectively.

As the investigation continues, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by the city’s most vulnerable residents.
