ROME, Lazio – Water and greenery are once again the protagonists of Villa Borghese in Rome, thanks to restoration efforts presented on the occasion of the 100th edition of the Piazza di Siena equestrian competition. Diego Nepi Molineris, CEO of Sport e Salute, led the inauguration visit of the restored works, highlighting the improvements made around the Oval, with particular attention to the Fontana dei Pupazzi and the Fontana dei Cavalli Marini.
Symbols of Roman Heritage Rejuvenated
These fountains are not only symbols of the renowned Roman villa, which has been open to the public since its inception, but also silent witnesses to one of the world’s most significant equestrian venues. “A portion of the profits from this event is invested in the recovery of some of the symbols of this historic Roman villa,” explained Nepi Molineris. “This all began with Credito Sportivo, then presided over by the current Minister Andrea Abodi, who continues to support us in our projects.”
The central theme of the visit was the “path of water,” a defining element of the park. “Water has its own distinct sound and is essential for Villa Borghese. Hearing it flow while walking is something beautiful. It is life,” Nepi Molineris emphasized.
Extensive Restoration Works and Community Involvement
The restoration work also encompassed the avenues and green areas connecting the fountains around the Oval. “Together with the Municipality of Rome and the Capitoline Superintendence, we want to leave something after Piazza di Siena that can be enjoyed by both Romans and tourists. Here, sport, art, and nature find their perfect union,” he added.
The inauguration visit was attended by Federica Pirani from the Capitoline Superintendence and Alix Van Buren, president of the Association of Friends of Villa Borghese. The morning concluded with the reactivation of the water in the Fontana dei Cavalli Marini, one of the most celebrated symbols of the villa and the Italian Grand Tour.
