Rome, March 25 – The Lazio region has reported 120 cases of Hepatitis A since the start of the year, with around 50 occurring in Rome. Despite a recent Hepatitis A emergency in the Campania region, health experts in Lazio state that the current figures are not a cause for concern, aligning with data from the previous year when 1,700 cases were confirmed.

An epidemiological link to the cases in Naples and its surroundings was identified in February, marked by a peak in infections in the province of Latina. Around the 20th of last month, a batch of seafood believed to be the source of the spread was confiscated and removed from circulation.
The quick action by authorities appears to have contained the spread, as only a few patients have required hospitalization. Currently, no patients are admitted to the Spallanzani Institute, the regional reference center for infectious diseases, for Hepatitis A. Some individuals were monitored due to altered liver values, but their conditions did not necessitate prolonged hospital stays.
