Bacoli, Naples, Italy – A late-night burglary in Bacoli escalated into a violent confrontation yesterday, resulting in two men sustaining minor injuries after confronting four intruders who discharged firearms during their escape. The incident occurred on Via Gabriele D’Annunzio, where a 54-year-old man and a 52-year-old companion were alerted by the sound of a flex tool coming from the 54-year-old’s son’s unoccupied residence.
Violent Encounter in Bacoli
According to preliminary investigations by the Carabinieri, the two men surprised at least four individuals attempting to flee the property after breaking in. A scuffle ensued, during which several gunshots were fired at the two men. In the ensuing chaos, one of the perpetrators reportedly threw a pistol, striking the 54-year-old in the face before the group escaped in a dark-colored, large-displacement vehicle.
Initial assessments suggest the burglars successfully stole money from a safe within the residence before their departure. Carabinieri from the Bacoli station, supported by the operational section of the Pozzuoli company and the investigative unit of the Naples provincial command, responded to the scene to conduct scientific examinations.
During their inspection, authorities discovered and seized a pistol and seven 7.65 caliber shell casings. The firearm will undergo urgent ballistic testing to check for fingerprints and to determine any potential links to other criminal activities or violent incidents. Investigations are ongoing to accurately reconstruct the events and identify those responsible.
The two injured men were transported to the hospital in Pozzuoli. Their conditions are not critical, and their lives are not in danger.
Separate Arrest in Quarto
Concurrently, a few kilometers away in Quarto, Carabinieri from the local Tenenza arrested a 50-year-old Georgian national found to be illegally present in Italy. The previous night, in collaboration with the Carabinieri of Monte di Procida, officers responded to Via Cimarosa following reports from residents who had surprised the man attempting to break into an apartment.
While attempting to evade capture, the 50-year-old fell down a set of stairs, sustaining injuries that necessitated his transfer to the hospital. After being discharged with a prognosis of ten days, he was arrested and subsequently imprisoned. He faces charges of attempted aggravated theft and illegal immigration. These two distinct incidents, occurring within a short timeframe, underscore the ongoing security concerns in the Phlegraean Fields area.
