Garbatella: Renovated Play Area on Circonvallazione Ostiense Completed
Rome, February 3, 2026 – The play area for children located in the central square of Circonvallazione Ostiense, at civic number 253 in Garbatella, has undergone a complete transformation. The renovation work, which began in late September, has been successfully concluded, restoring a once-degraded and unsafe area into a modern, inclusive, and secure space for the community.
A Strategic Area for the Neighborhood
The central square of Circonvallazione Ostiense is situated in a densely populated and highly trafficked area, along one of Garbatella’s main arteries. Historically, it has served as a significant gathering point for residents and families. The previous condition of the play area, with its inadequate structures and unacceptable safety standards, had become a pressing concern for a space frequented daily by children.
Municipality-Funded Project
The new intervention was made possible by a 100,000 euro funding allocation from the Municipality, secured through an amendment to the last budget presented by Fratelli d’Italia. These resources facilitated a comprehensive renovation of the area, with the stated objective of creating a modern, accessible, and truly inclusive space capable of meeting the neighborhood’s needs.
New Games and Enhanced Safety
The project involved the installation of new and modern play equipment, including slides, swings, and spring riders, all integrated into a completely refurbished space. The entire area now features a vibrant, colorful, poured-rubber anti-trauma flooring, designed to ensure maximum safety during play while also making the environment more welcoming and recognizable.
Particular attention was given to accessibility. New ramps have been installed to allow entry for people with disabilities, and a colorful fence now delineates and protects the play area, making it easily identifiable. The intervention is completed by benches, placed both within the play space and along the pedestrian pathway, offering resting spots for parents, grandparents, and guardians.
A Broader Vision for Urban Regeneration
As explained by the Municipal Councilor for the Environment, Claudio Mannarino, at the start of the construction, the new play area is not an isolated intervention but part of a broader urban transformation strategy. “The objective,” stated the Councilor, “is to transform the square and the entire Circonvallazione Ostiense into a modern, safe, and functional space capable of satisfying the community’s needs. The intervention aims to return to residents a place for meeting, playing, and socializing, contributing to improving the quality of life and strengthening the neighborhood’s identity.”
Fratelli d’Italia’s Commentary
Franco Federici, group leader of Fratelli d’Italia in Municipio VIII, also commented on the intervention, directly claiming credit for the achievement: “This intervention, strongly desired by us at Fratelli d’Italia and carried out thanks to an amendment requested by Capitoline Councilor Francesca Barbato, whom I thank, has finally been completed.”
A Space Restored to the Community
With the conclusion of the works, the central square of Circonvallazione Ostiense once again becomes a vibrant place, designed primarily for children but capable of serving as a meeting point for the entire neighborhood. This intervention marks a step forward in the care of public spaces in Garbatella and brings the issue of urban quality of life back to the forefront.
