Details of the Fatal Collision

According to initial reports, one of the vehicles involved in the accident may have veered into the oncoming lane. The slippery asphalt, likely due to recent rainfall, is being considered as a possible contributing factor to the tragedy. The collision took place at kilometer 60 of the Salaria, between Poggio San Lorenzo and Ponte Buita, a section of the road known for its high risk of accidents.

Emergency Response and Traffic Disruptions

Emergency services, including the Rieti Fire Brigade and several State Police teams, were immediately dispatched to the scene. Their efforts focused on managing the aftermath of the severe collision and assisting the injured. As a result of the accident, significant traffic delays were reported on the consular road. Traffic was diverted in both directions, towards Rieti and towards Rome, at the Poggio Moiano junction, causing considerable disruption for motorists.
