Torre Annunziata, May 27, 2026 – Four more individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of Alfonso Fontana, who was fatally shot outside the Torre Annunziata courthouse on the evening of February 7, 2024. The arrests include a prominent leader of the Juve Stabia ultras, Giovanni Imparato, also known as “‘o paglialone.”
New Arrests Shed Light on Mafia-Related Killing
Carabinieri from the Investigative Unit of the Torre Annunziata Group executed an order issued by the investigating judge of the Naples Court, at the request of the District Anti-Mafia Directorate. The four individuals are seriously suspected, to varying degrees, of murder, illegal possession and carrying of weapons, and crimes aggravated by mafia methods.
Catello Martino, known as “puparuolo,” the material perpetrator of the crime, has already been convicted, with his sentence recently reduced to thirty years on appeal after the mafia aggravating circumstance was dropped. However, the ongoing investigations by the Carabinieri have clarified the entire context in which Fontana’s brutal murder occurred.
The Role of the Ultra Leader and the Robbery Motive
According to the reconstruction, Imparato, a 62-year-old Stabia ultra leader, is believed to be among the heads of the drug dealing square in the Bronx Faito of Castellammare di Stabia. He was previously convicted as an affiliate of the D’Alessandro clan. Imparato allegedly accompanied the killer, Martino, on a scooter, incited him to shoot by yelling “shoot, puparuò, shoot,” and then helped him escape.
The motive for the murder reportedly stemmed from a robbery at Martino’s daughter’s home, where two Rolex watches, 90,000 euros in cash, half a kilo of gold, and precious objects were stolen. Fontana was allegedly involved in this robbery, accompanying two thieves to the scene. This detail was reportedly discovered by the killer through private surveillance cameras in the area.
Additional Arrests for Weapons Possession
In addition to Imparato, 25-year-old Vincenzo Avella, 24-year-old Emanuele Raffone, and another 24-year-old, Alessandro Fontana, were also imprisoned for illegal possession of weapons.
Victim’s Background and Clan Connections
Alfonso Fontana, the victim, was a young man with no prior criminal record, belonging to a family that had previously been linked to the D’Alessandro clan before splitting off to form the so-called “false repentants” clan.
The incident, which involved numerous gunshots fired amidst people near the courthouse roundabout, highlights the ongoing challenges posed by organized crime in the region.
The arrests underscore the relentless efforts of law enforcement to dismantle criminal networks and bring those responsible for violent crimes to justice in the Naples area.
Further developments in this high-profile case are expected as the investigation continues.
