Rome’s Airports Maintain European Leadership in Passenger Satisfaction

Rome, Italy – Leonardo da Vinci Airport (Fiumicino) has once again secured its position as Europe’s leading airport for service quality among large hubs, marking its ninth consecutive win in the over 40 million passenger category. This prestigious recognition comes from the Airports Council International (ACI) World’s Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Customer Experience Awards 2025. Adding to Rome’s triumph, Giovan Battista Pastine Airport (Ciampino) also celebrated its third consecutive award, ranking as the best airport in the 2-5 million passenger category.

These accolades firmly establish Italy’s capital airport system, managed by Aeroporti di Roma (ADR), a Mundys Group company, at the forefront of European aviation. The consistent success highlights the urgent need to implement the ‘Leonardo da Vinci’ airport development plan, crucial for ensuring service standards and capacity meet growing demand.

Passenger Feedback Drives Rome’s Success

The ASQ survey, a global benchmark for measuring customer experience in airports, gathered feedback from over 700,000 passengers across nearly 400 airports worldwide. This year’s evaluations were based on more than 30 indicators, reflecting a comprehensive assessment of the passenger journey.

Fiumicino Airport achieved a record score of 4.64 out of a maximum of 5 in 2025, placing it first among all 124 European airports and top among major European and North American hubs participating in the survey. The airport swept all award categories, reaffirming its status as the ‘Best Airport,’ alongside recognitions for ‘Most Dedicated Staff,’ ‘Easiest Airport Journey,’ ‘Most Enjoyable,’ and ‘Cleanest Airport in Europe.’ This comprehensive success underscores Fiumicino’s excellence across the entire customer experience, from travel efficiency and hospitality to cleanliness and overall comfort.

Ciampino Airport was honored as the best airport in its category and also received the ‘Most Dedicated Staff’ award, further emphasizing the commitment to service quality across Rome’s airport system.

Investment and Vision for Future Growth

Marco Troncone, CEO of Aeroporti di Roma, emphasized the significance of these awards. “This recognition is, first and foremost, a further confirmation of the great daily work of our people and the entire airport community,” Troncone stated. “It is the result of a strong investment policy in infrastructure and the internalization and governance of the most sensitive operational activities for our users.”

Troncone highlighted the responsibility that comes with maintaining European leadership for nine consecutive years, especially with constantly growing traffic. “We must continue on this path, investing in innovation, processes, and infrastructure,” he affirmed. “To best enhance the attractiveness of our destination, which in 2025 has already brought us to a record figure of over 55 million total passengers between Fiumicino and Ciampino airports, a medium-to-long-term vision for infrastructural evolution is necessary. This is why we consider it fundamental and urgent to continue with the path outlined in our Airport Development Plan: it is a choice that can no longer be postponed to strengthen the country’s international connectivity, support tourism and the economy, and make Leonardo da Vinci an increasingly strategic platform for global transit flows.”

The ambitious development project for Fiumicino includes plans for a fourth runway and significant redevelopment works in the surrounding area, with investments totaling 9 billion euros.

Lazio Region Celebrates Airport Excellence

Francesco Rocca, President of the Lazio Region, expressed his satisfaction with the achievements. “The recognition, for the ninth consecutive year, of Rome Fiumicino Airport as the best European hub, is a source of great pride for the Lazio Region,” Rocca commented. “It is a result that confirms the excellence of our airport system, Rome’s central role as an international gateway to the country, and the undeniable attractiveness of the Lazio system. The award also obtained by Rome-Ciampino Airport reinforces this primacy and demonstrates the quality of the work carried out by management and workers. As the Lazio Region, we will continue to support this path with far-sighted choices that sustain its growth and development.”

The official awards ceremony will take place at the ACI World Airport Experience Summit, scheduled from August 31 to September 4 in Istanbul, Turkey.
