Fire Erupts at Esquilino Guesthouse, Two Rescued from Rooftop
A fire at a guesthouse located on the top floor of a building on Via Carlo Cattaneo 22, in Rome’s Esquilino district, caused moments of panic yesterday morning. The blaze, possibly triggered by an electrical short circuit, started suddenly in the guesthouse, which also advertises on social media platforms.
Dramatic Rooftop Rescue by Firefighters
Two guests were trapped by the flames and smoke, forced to seek refuge on the building’s rooftop. One of the individuals was suffering from smoke inhalation. Firefighters used a ladder truck to reach them at a height of over 20 meters, bringing them safely back to the ground. At least six fire brigade vehicles responded to the scene, alongside local police from the Social and Urban Security Group and officers from the Esquilino police station.
Three Hospitalized, Investigation Underway
In total, five people required medical assistance from Ares 118 personnel, with some needing supplementary oxygen. Among them was a police officer who had intervened with local police to evacuate residents from the building and prevent further risks. While firefighters extinguished the flames, the sixth-floor property sustained severe damage. The guesthouse has since been seized, with urban police placing seals on the charred door as an investigation into the regularity of the accommodation structure, in collaboration with municipal authorities, is now underway.
