Milan, March 21 – Two young people, a 23-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman, tragically lost their lives in a road accident early this morning in Milan. The incident occurred in Viale Mugello, involving the motorcycle they were riding and a taxi, which subsequently overturned.

Victims Identified in Tragic Milan Accident

The victims have been identified as Mithum Sandeepa Perera Kuranage, 23, from Capannori in the province of Lucca, and Elisa Teodora Dranca, 20, from Locate Triulzi. Both were pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.

Taxi Driver Injured, Investigations Underway

The 61-year-old taxi driver involved in the collision sustained injuries and was transported to Policlinico hospital in yellow code. Emergency services, including 118 personnel and firefighters, responded to the scene, alongside local police who have initiated an investigation to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the accident.

Reconstruction of the Accident

Initial findings from the local police suggest that the motorcycle, a Kawasaki Ninja, was traveling along Viale Campania from Piazza Piola. At the intersection with Corso XXII Marzo, the motorcycle reportedly ran a red light, colliding head-on with the taxi, which was proceeding towards the outskirts of the city.

The impact caused the taxi to overturn, and the motorcycle was found lying on the ground. A dashcam video, reportedly capturing the moment of impact, is being reviewed as part of the investigation.

Community Reaction and Safety Concerns

The tragic deaths have prompted renewed discussions about road safety in Milan, particularly at busy intersections and during late-night hours. This incident adds to concerns about traffic violations and their severe consequences.

Authorities urge all road users to exercise extreme caution and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent further tragedies. The full report on the accident’s cause is pending the completion of the police investigation.
