The attack occurred around 9:30 PM on Monday, February 24, 2026, when the student, in Rome as part of the Erasmus program, was followed into Villa Borghese from Piazzale Flaminio. She was then dragged into bushes and assaulted. The attacker, described by the victim as having “Asian features,” attempted to remove her trousers.
British newspapers, including the Daily Mail, Daily Mirror, and The Sun, have prominently featured the story, with the Daily Mail describing it as a “terrifying sexual assault” on a young woman “dragged into the woods.” The taxi driver, Fabio Moccia of 3570, who came to the victim’s aid and called an ambulance, also provided statements to the Corriere, which were subsequently reported in the British press.

Carabinieri from the Trionfale company are leading the investigation, with a primary focus on forensic evidence. Traces found on the victim’s trousers, which the assailant attempted to remove, have been sent to the RACIS (Scientific Investigations Department) for DNA analysis. She reported not having a clear view of her attacker, as she was suddenly struck with punches while walking before being restrained.
Authorities do not believe the assailant is a homeless person or a nocturnal park frequenter. Instead, they hypothesize he may be a commuter who regularly passes through Piazzale Flaminio on his way home from work. This has led to speculation that he could be a foreign commuter.
In response to the attack and heightened public concern, police presence in Villa Borghese has been significantly increased. Patrols are now more frequent, particularly in the areas between Piazzale Flaminio and Viale Washington, as well as near Muro Torto. Despite the traumatic experience, the victim, who was treated and discharged from Policlinico Umberto I for contusions, has expressed her intention to remain in Rome and has offered her full cooperation for further investigations.
