Diamond League 2026: Golden Gala Pietro Mennea Returns to Rome with Star-Studded Lineup
Rome, June 2 – The highly anticipated Diamond League 2026 is set to make its stop in Italy with the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea, scheduled for Thursday, June 4, at the iconic Stadio Olimpico in Rome. This prestigious international athletics circuit will bring together a host of world-class athletes, promising an unforgettable evening of competition and excitement.
The event, a highlight on the global athletics calendar, will feature numerous Olympic and World Champions across various disciplines. Fans can expect to see fierce rivalries and record-breaking performances in the Eternal City.
Star Athletes to Watch at the Golden Gala 2026
The entry list for the Golden Gala 2026 is brimming with talent. Among the most anticipated names are Olympic 100m Champion Marcell Jacobs and World Champion Noah Lyles, who will go head-to-head in the men’s 100m sprint. They will be joined by 200m Olympic gold medalist Letsile Tebogo and 4x100m Olympic silver medalist Akani Simbine, ensuring a thrilling race.
In the women’s 200m, World Champion Melissa Jefferson-Wooden will compete against Olympic silver medalist (and 100m gold medalist) Julian Alfred, alongside two members of France’s 4x100m Olympic silver medal-winning relay team from Paris 2024, Dina Asher-Smith and Amy Hunt.
The long jump will unfortunately be without Mattia Furlani, who sustained an injury after winning the Shanghai/Keqiao leg with a personal best. However, the event will still feature the reigning Greek Olympic champion. The triple jump will see the highly anticipated return of Andy Diaz, indoor World Champion and Olympic bronze medalist, who has already claimed the Diamond Trophy three times (2022, 2023, 2025).
In the shot put, European gold medalist Leonardo Fabbri will face off against Olympic and World Champion Ryan Crouser. The men’s javelin throw promises a compelling battle between the 2025 World Championship podium finishers: Keshorn Walcott, Anderson Peters (also Olympic bronze medalist), and Curtis Thompson.
The event will also showcase several Olympic champions in the women’s events. Keely Hodgkinson, Olympic champion in the 800m, will compete in the 400m, while Nina Kennedy will be a strong contender in the pole vault. The 400m hurdles will feature a primary showdown between Olympic silver medalist Anna Cockrell and World bronze medalist Emma Zapletalová.
Italian fans will also have the opportunity to cheer for Nadia Battocletti, World bronze medalist and European gold medalist in the 5000m (and 10,000m, where she is also an Olympic and World silver medalist), who will once again receive strong support from the home crowd, reminiscent of Rome 2024.
