Naples, January 14 – The Fondazione Banco Napoli is set to host ‘Remare,’ an exhibition by Caserta-based artist Antonello Tagliafierro, opening on Thursday, January 15th, at 6:00 PM. The exhibition, part of the ‘Entrée’ contemporary art series curated by Carla Viparelli, will be held at Palazzo Ricca, the headquarters of the Fondazione Banco Napoli, and will run until March 20th.

Carla Viparelli, the exhibition’s curator, recalled her first encounter with Tagliafierro’s work, stating, “The first time I saw a work by Tagliafierro was at the Bari Expó at the end of the Eighties. I remember it as if it were yesterday, ‘Have you seen my shoes’ – a pair of sneakers – where not so much the objective recognizability was represented, but rather the dynamic decomposition into many kinetic brushstrokes, an allegory not only of the creative process, analytical and instinctive at the same time, but also of the motor functionality of the object.”

A fundamental component of Tagliafierro’s visual and conceptual exploration is writing, which he traces on canvas with gestural and instinctive movements. The meaning, in his work, lies in the mark itself rather than necessarily in its literal interpretation. Art historian Luca Palermo elaborates on this, writing, “The ‘di-segni’ traced on the canvas manifest themselves as pure presence, as an act that simply shows itself, analogous to poetic language and its ability to say beyond the sayable, to signify beyond the significable. The idea of writing, of mark and of drawing is radically rethought by the artist: it is no longer just a static or decorative element, but a process, a gesture, a concept.”
