Confindustria Lecce in Turmoil: National Arbitrators Seize Powers

Lecce, July 14, 2021 – Confindustria Lecce is experiencing a period of significant upheaval following a decision by the national Confederal Board of Arbitrators to assume all powers previously held by the local Salento board. This unprecedented move comes after the annulment of vice-presidential designations and has left associates in a state of uncertainty regarding the immediate future.

The current regent of the Salento industrialists’ association, Nicola Delle Donne, confirmed the development in a brief note to members: “I inform you that, with a resolution adopted today, the Confederal Board of Arbitrators has decided to assume all functions and powers of the Special Board of Arbitrators of Confindustria Lecce.”

Doubts on Future Scenarios Amidst Electoral Irregularities

This formal announcement underscores the clear intention of the national arbitrators in Rome: to thoroughly investigate the recent electoral process in Lecce. Concerns have been raised that several aspects of the election did not adhere to regulatory boundaries. “It had never happened before that the national arbitrators adopted such a measure,” commented experienced observers.

The national arbitrators have requested all electoral documents produced to date from the Lecce structure. This action follows a July 2nd communication in which the Roman arbitrators annulled the June 24th designation by the General Council of Confindustria Lecce of the four vice-presidents proposed by Maurizio Zecca. These proposed vice-presidents were Alessio Tundo, Marcello Piccinni, Filippo Surace, and Giacinto Colucci.

Notably, Giacinto Colucci, Zecca’s political opponent and the sole official candidate, was not designated despite having secured 59% of the preferences during consultations. Colucci’s non-designation led his supporters to boycott the General Council meeting on June 24th. Despite this, the quorum (50%, 19 out of 38) was reached to designate Zecca, largely due to the vote of the Leverano entrepreneur himself.

Violation of Confindustria Regulations

However, it was not this circumstance – though it did not go unnoticed by those directly involved – that led the Roman arbitrators to annul the vice-presidential designations. Instead, the annulment was a direct consequence of the failure to comply with the mandatory Confindustria Regulation. Specifically, point 2 of Chapter III states: “Before the presentation to the General Council of the vice-presidents proposed by the designated president, confidential communication to the Board of Arbitrators (confederal) to obtain their opinion on the personal and professional profile and to verify the possession of the requirement of complete integration.”

The current situation has created significant unease among members, with many questioning what the next steps will be for the organization. The national arbitrators’ intervention highlights a commitment to upholding the integrity of electoral processes within Confindustria and ensuring adherence to established regulations.

The implications of this decision for the leadership and future direction of Confindustria Lecce remain to be seen as the national arbitrators continue their thorough investigation.
