Comicon Naples 2026 Concludes with Record-Breaking Numbers
Naples, May 4, 2026 – Comicon Naples 2026, one of Europe’s leading cultural festivals, concluded yesterday, May 3rd, after four days of intense programming. The event attracted a record 183,000 visitors, hosting over 480 guests and 520 exhibitors across the entire Mostra d’Oltremare exhibition space. The festival’s ten sections featured more than 650 events, complemented by over 30 events from the Comicon Off program spread across the city and additional activities from the Extra in Campania program.
Economic Impact and International Standing
Comicon Naples has solidified its position as a leader among Italian cultural festivals and ranks among the top five European festivals in terms of size and cultural offerings. The 2026 edition generated a significant economic impact of 43.1 million euros for the local territory. Despite an increase in exhibitors and guests, access was capped at 183,000 visitors, consistent with the 2025 trend, to ensure optimal visitor experience and space usability.
Future Plans and Exhibitions
Comicon’s activities extend beyond the main festival. For the first time in Italy, an exhibition dedicated to the renowned cartoonist Robert Crumb, titled “Robert Crumb. Bad Thoughts,” will be held at Maschio Angioino (Castel Nuovo) from May 27th to August 31st. This initiative is a result of a collaboration between COMICON and the Municipality of Naples, promising a summer filled with pop culture. Additionally, the fourth edition of COMICON Bergamo is scheduled for June 26th to 28th, in partnership with Promoberg.
The dates for the 27th edition of Comicon Naples have already been set for April 29th to May 2nd, 2027.
Statements from Regional and Municipal Authorities
Roberto Fico, President of the Campania Region, expressed his enthusiasm for the festival’s success. “For twenty-six editions, Comicon has been a fundamental event for pop culture, not only for Campania and Italy. The event has grown over time, expanding its vision, enriching, and diversifying its program. It represents an important moment of aggregation, discussion, expression of creative talents, and unity between different generations. It constantly renews itself, year after year, in the spirit of cultural vibrancy, enthusiasm, and the energy of all those who participate. As the Campania Region, we stand by this project, aware of the importance that a decisive support for culture plays in the development of our community.”
Naples Mayor Gaetano Manfredi also highlighted the festival’s positive impact. “Comicon in Naples confirms itself as a winning format because it attracts young generations, creating that sense of community we so desperately need in this historical phase. As the municipal administration, we have also brought it to various places in the city, making these days of celebration, passion, and multifaceted culture even more special. Naples is increasingly becoming a capital for young people, innovation, and talent.”
Comicon’s Vision for the Future
Claudio Curcio, President of Comicon, shared his vision for upcoming editions. “Our festival is already working to feature authors, guests, and innovations of absolute quality and international scope in 2027. We look to the next edition with renewed confidence in our potential, which, almost on the eve of Comicon’s 30th anniversary in 2028, still proves to be entirely unexplored. We will give space to creativity, new contemporary languages, and increasingly develop international collaborations: these are the objectives for 2027 for a festival that tries to reverse the common narrative about young people being solely focused on cell phones and isolated in social media bubbles. The Comicon audience does not seem to follow this narrative: it values being together in person, sharing rather than dividing, discovering the world instead of isolating oneself, focusing on a comic or a manga. I think COMICON is a stimulus to trigger positive social processes.”
Carlo Cigliano, CEO of Comicon, concluded by emphasizing the festival’s leadership and positive impact. “We close the 2026 edition with the confirmation of Comicon 2026 as a leading international event in pop culture. At the base of this success is a qualified and varied program across the various segments of the offer, the ability to innovate and anticipate cultural consumption trends, and a cooperative business model that dynamically involves many young people and creates internal value and across the entire territory, operating from Naples, but throughout Italy and abroad. We had set ourselves an objective: to make April, close to Comicon, the month of creativity in Naples and Campania: with the Naples off-festival and its 35 events spread across the city, realized thanks to Mayor Manfredi and the support of the Municipality of Naples, and the resumption of Comicon Extra, the program of events brought to Campania with the Region and thanks to the will of Councillor Cutaia, we are demonstrating that this objective is not only achievable but can represent, in the near future, a great attractor that enhances, through young people and pop culture, local excellences. Approximately 1,000 overnight stays were directly secured by Comicon for its guests, who were offered trips and tours to places of specific interest in Naples and Campania. 500 collaborators, engaged in various capacities, are directly employed by the cooperative to manage the vital functions of the festival and are in addition to the 50 resources who work on the project throughout the year. We thank all those who see Comicon as a positive model not only for entertainment, but for sociality, growth, training, and even a stimulus for work and business opportunities. In a time of madness, hatred, and discrimination, Comicon speaks of peace, inclusion, and solidarity.”
