Search Underway for Missing Man After Car Parts Found Near Aniene River
Tivoli, February 12 – The search for Alessandro Giannetti, who disappeared from Tivoli on Sunday, February 8, intensified yesterday after parts of his car were discovered near the Aniene River. The license plate and bumper of his grey Volkswagen were found in Via Tiburtina, in the Pante Lucano area, adjacent to the riverbanks.
Firefighters, equipped with a dinghy, are actively searching the Aniene River. Officers from the State Police, specifically the Tivoli Police Station, and local police are also present at the scene, coordinating the search efforts.
Parents Issued Public Appeal
In the days leading up to this discovery, Giannetti’s parents had launched a heartfelt appeal on social media, which garnered significant attention and shares. Their message stated: "Our son Alessandro Giannetti left the restaurant at 5 AM on Sunday morning and disappeared with his car, a grey Volkswagen. Anyone with information or who sees him should call the Emergency Number 112, contact the Tivoli police and carabinieri, or reach us at 3420012563."
Tire Tracks Lead to River
Initial information obtained by Fanpage.it indicates that tire tracks were found at the exact location where Giannetti’s car parts were discovered. These tracks reportedly lead first towards a tree and then directly into the river. This suggests the hypothesis that Alessandro’s car may have ended up in the water, prompting the extensive river search by rescue teams.
Traffic Deviations in Tivoli
The Municipality of Tivoli announced yesterday afternoon that due to the ongoing investigations by the police at kilometer 26.2 of Via Tiburtina, traffic diversions have been implemented. All vehicles traveling towards Rome are now required to turn left towards Ponte Lucano – motorway. For those coming from Rome towards Tivoli, two patrols are redirecting traffic towards the Via Maremmana service road at the roundabouts.
Previous Incident in Frosinone
This incident follows a similar event in the Frosinone area, where the Fiat Punto of fifty-one-year-old Davide Perna, originally from Monte San Giovanni Campano, was recovered from the Liri River. A body was found inside the vehicle, which is awaiting official identification by family members. Perna had been missing since February 7.
The search for Alessandro Giannetti and his vehicle continues as authorities work to piece together the circumstances of his disappearance.
