Bagnoli Viva Digital Platform: A New Era for Urban Regeneration in Naples
Naples, May 26, 2026 – The highly anticipated digital platform ‘Bagnoli Viva’ was officially unveiled today in Naples, marking a significant step forward in the regeneration of the former industrial area of Bagnoli-Coroglio. This ambitious project, costing over 1 million euros, aims to transform the urban landscape through enhanced civic participation, transparency, and advanced digital tools. The platform is set to go live on June 1st, initiating a new chapter for one of Italy’s most crucial urban regeneration initiatives.
Over €1 Million Investment for Digital Transformation
The total investment for the ‘Bagnoli Viva’ platform amounts to 1,037,000 euros, covering both the activation and initial management costs. Further annual expenses for maintenance and updates will be incurred. This substantial investment underscores the commitment of local authorities to leverage technology for urban development. The project is part of a broader national initiative to migrate public services and data to the National Strategic Hub (PSN), a high-reliability and secure cloud platform promoted by the Department for Digital Transformation of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers. The Bagnoli-Coroglio special commission was the sole Italian commission to participate in this pilot tender, which is part of an 11 billion euro national plan for the digital transformation of public administration. Engineer Giuseppe Napolitano serves as the sole project manager.
Commissioner Manfredi’s Vision and America’s Cup
‘Bagnoli Viva’ was conceived under the directive of Gaetano Manfredi, the extraordinary commissioner for the reclamation and regeneration of the Bagnoli-Coroglio SIN area and Mayor of Naples. The platform’s development also anticipates the upcoming America’s Cup, which will be hosted in Bagnoli, highlighting the area’s growing importance on the international stage.
Initially, the platform will undergo a experimental phase from June 1st to September 15th. Following this period, it is expected to become fully functional, enabling citizens, associations, and local entities to access it via SPID, join the community, and participate in thematic discussions and consultation processes.
How the Participatory Platform Will Function
The portal is designed as an open digital space for citizens to closely monitor the progress of reclamation and urban regeneration works. It will provide real-time updates on construction sites, project timelines, environmental monitoring data, and technical documentation related to the Bagnoli-Coroglio SIN. The project is built around three main pillars: active participation, historical memory, and administrative transparency.
Key sections of the portal include:
- Participation: This section will host public meetings, neighborhood workshops, online consultations, and civic monitoring tools. It will also feature collaborative digital spaces and co-design functions for urban transformation themes.
- Industrial Memory: Dedicated to preserving Bagnoli’s industrial heritage, this segment will feature photographs, archives, and historical content, which will be progressively enriched by community contributions.
- Transparency: Extensive information on ongoing works will be provided, including interactive maps, technical datasheets, construction site data, and immersive tools such as augmented reality and digital twins.
Officials Emphasize Inclusivity and Livability
The presentation was attended by councilors Carlo Puca, Chiara Marciani, and Valerio Di Pietro, along with sub-commissioner Dino Falconio, directors of the special commission, and the technical team responsible for the platform’s development. The overarching message accompanying the project’s launch is to ‘restore safe and public access to the sea, with new beaches and a large seafront piazza, as a concrete step towards a more inclusive and livable Bagnoli,’ in parallel with the ongoing reclamation and regeneration efforts.
During the presentation, Di Pietro stated, ‘Through this platform, technology serves citizens, creating an accessible and open digital space that allows real-time monitoring of one of the country’s most important urban regeneration processes.’ Puca added that ‘people will be able to feel part of an active community and involved in the change of a place that has been waiting for over thirty years.’ Marciani highlighted that Bagnoli’s transformation extends beyond urban spaces to encompass social, cultural, and employment opportunities for the region. She concluded, ‘Involving citizens, young people, and associations means strengthening the sense of community and making Bagnoli’s rebirth a shared, transparent, and inclusive process.’
The ‘Bagnoli Viva’ platform represents a significant investment in the future of Naples, aiming to create a more connected, transparent, and participatory urban environment. Its success will be crucial in shaping the future of Bagnoli and setting a precedent for urban regeneration projects across Italy.
