Milan, Lombardy, Italy – On the occasion of World Biodiversity Day, the Armani Group unveiled new interventions for its ‘Milano Green Circle 90/91’ project. This initiative, developed by Forestami and promoted by the Municipality of Milan, seeks to re-naturalize the route of the city’s 90/91 trolleybus line, transforming the ring road avenues into a vital urban green infrastructure.

Armani’s Commitment to Urban Sustainability

The project, which began in January 2025 and is slated for completion in the 2026/27 agronomic season, is an integral part of the Armani Group’s broader sustainability strategy. Its primary objectives include enhancing air quality, improving climate resilience, boosting biodiversity, and elevating the overall quality of public spaces within Milan.

Focus on Viale Sondrio and Viale Tonale for 2026

The 2026 phase of the project will concentrate on Viale Sondrio and Viale Tonale. These areas have been identified as microclimatically and morphologically complex due to significant sun exposure and high summer temperatures. Consequently, the selection of plant species for these sections will prioritize those highly resilient to climate change.

Previous Successes and Environmental Benefits

Last year, the Armani Group’s interventions focused on the western part of the city. Approximately 4,000 shrubs and over 1,000 perennial herbaceous plants were installed across more than 1,000 linear meters. The planting criteria were meticulously adapted to factors such as sun exposure, urban morphology, water availability, and existing tree populations.

These operations have not only redefined the relationship between the city and nature but have also yielded tangible environmental benefits. Areas with reduced mowing now host over 110 insect species, and the population of diurnal butterflies has increased by up to 58%, bringing vibrant color back to the city’s green spaces.
