On Friday, January 9th, the Duel Club in Pozzuoli, Naples, will host Amalfitano, one of the most distinctive voices in the new Italian singer-songwriter scene. This performance marks a new stop on his indoor tour, promoting his album “Sono morto x 15 giorni ma sono tornato perché l’amore è,” released on October 24th, which has already garnered recognition as an intense, fragmented, and essential narrative of our times.
A Journey of Emotion and Authenticity
The concert promises to be more than just a live presentation. On the Duel Club stage, located on Via Antiniana, Amalfitano will bring the entire album to life, transforming it into a continuous emotional flow. His performance will feature poignant lyrics, distinctive melodies, and sudden choral harmonies, creating a visceral, direct, and unfiltered experience. The album, conceived as a journey and a symbolic resurrection, finds its most authentic expression in live performance.
Exploring Love and Modern Anxieties
“Sono morto x 15 giorni ma sono tornato perché l’amore è” is an emotional odyssey that navigates between romantic sentiments and broader reflections on contemporary society and the future. The songs delve into themes of reckless love and exposed vulnerabilities, while also addressing the increasing complexity of the world, marked by subtle anxieties and sudden shifts. Amalfitano observes and conveys these narratives without judgment, offering a clear-sighted yet deeply human perspective.
The Artist Behind the Music
Behind this project is the personal and artistic trajectory of Gabriele Mencacci Amalfitano, a singer-songwriter who grew up across Rome, Cortina d’Ampezzo, and London. Following his experience as the vocalist and guitarist for Joe Victor, Amalfitano has forged a coherent and recognizable solo career. His previous works include “Il Disco di Palermo” (2022) and “Tienimi la mano, Diva!” (2024). His songwriting explores unseen landscapes and tumultuous nights, often bordering on the absurd, transforming these turbulent stories into anthems for collective singing.
A Fusion of Rock and Italian Songwriting
Amalfitano embodies a raw and sincere rock’n’roll spirit that seamlessly blends with profound Italian songwriting traditions. His albums showcase a coexistence of 1970s Anglo-American rock and the alternative sounds of the 1980s and 1990s. This fusion is central to his sonic exploration, which highlights a powerful, raw, and instantly recognizable vocal style.
Beyond Music: Writing and Visual Arts
A versatile artist, Amalfitano has also pursued writing and visual arts alongside his musical career. Under the pseudonym Zin Suddu, he held a solo exhibition in Rome in 2019. Since 2020, he has collaborated with Laterza Editori on the show “Mystery Train,” alongside Americanist Alessandro Portelli. This project is a journey through American imagery, exploring trains, modernity, stories, poems, and folk songs.
