Audacious Pasquetta Burglary in Rome’s Monti District

Rome, April 7 – A significant theft occurred in the Monti district of Rome over the Easter weekend, with burglars stealing an estimated 700,000 euros worth of jewelry, watches, and other precious items from the apartment of a 49-year-old woman on Via Leonina. The homeowner, who was out of Rome for the Easter break, reported the incident upon her return on Tuesday.

The thieves reportedly gained entry to the apartment by forcing an access point and then located and forced open a safe. In a move to evade identification, they dismantled the entire video surveillance system, including the cameras, before making their escape.

Suspected Inside Knowledge or Prior Surveillance

Investigators believe the audacious robbery may have been carried out with the assistance of an accomplice or followed a period of intense surveillance to ascertain the victim’s habits and schedule. Despite the scale of the operation, none of the neighbors reported noticing any suspicious activity during the holiday period.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, returned to her Rome residence on Tuesday to discover the ransacked apartment and the missing valuables. The incident has prompted a police investigation into the circumstances surrounding the theft.

Police Investigation Underway

Authorities have initiated an investigation to identify the perpetrators of the high-value burglary. The method of entry, the targeting of the safe, and the deliberate disabling of the surveillance system suggest a degree of planning and professionalism on the part of the thieves.

The Monti district, known for its historic charm and central location, has seen its share of property crimes, but a theft of this magnitude is considered unusual. Police are appealing to anyone with information that could assist in their inquiries to come forward.

The incident serves as a stark reminder for residents to take extra precautions when leaving their homes unattended for extended periods, especially during holiday seasons. While the police investigation is ongoing, the focus remains on recovering the stolen items and bringing the culprits to justice.

Further details regarding the investigation are expected to be released as they become available. The community awaits updates on this significant crime that has shaken the tranquil Monti neighborhood.
