Tension rose this morning on Via Raffaele Costi, in Tor Cervara, Rome, following a fire alarm that prompted the evacuation of an office building belonging to the Revenue Agency. The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, was fortunately a false alarm, as confirmed by the Revenue Agency itself.

Alarm Triggers Evacuation and Emergency Response

The alarm was triggered around 8:10 AM, indicating a fire in the basement of the building located at number 60, housing a provincial office of the Revenue Agency. Firefighters from the La Rustica detachment were immediately dispatched to the scene, supported by a water tender and a foam tender to manage the situation and secure the premises.

As a precautionary measure, the entire building was evacuated during the emergency operations. Employees were safely escorted out of the offices. In addition to the firefighters, an official from the provincial command and Carabinieri were present to conduct routine investigations and ascertain the cause of the alarm. Medical personnel from 118 were also on site.

Smoke from the System, Not a Fire

The Revenue Agency clarified the situation, stating, “Fortunately, it was not a fire, but for reasons yet to be determined, the alarm went off. The smoke was caused by the particular type of the system.” The Agency expressed its gratitude to the firefighters and law enforcement for their prompt intervention.

Investigations Underway to Determine Cause

The Carabinieri are currently carrying out investigations to reconstruct the dynamics of the event and determine what exactly triggered the alarm and the subsequent smoke. While the immediate danger has passed, the incident highlights the importance of robust safety protocols and swift emergency response.

Impact on Local Area and Commuters

The incident briefly disrupted normal operations in the Tor Cervara area. Although no injuries were reported, the presence of emergency vehicles and personnel likely caused some temporary inconvenience for local residents and commuters in the vicinity of Via Raffaele Costi.

This event serves as a reminder of the critical role played by emergency services in ensuring public safety, even in cases of false alarms. The quick and professional response of the firefighters and Carabinieri ensured that a potentially dangerous situation was handled efficiently and without harm.
