Milan, June 19 – Extraordinary territorial control operations are continuing in Milan, focusing on areas significantly affected by degradation and illegality. The latest operation targeted the Rogoredo area, where a new inter-agency service was conducted, coordinated by the Prefecture, in implementation of the determinations made by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security.
Focus on Station, Metro Stops, and Surrounding Areas
The controls specifically targeted the wooded area, the railway station, the M3 Rogoredo and San Donato metro stops, and the surrounding areas. The operations focused on combating drug dealing, widespread illegality, irregular immigration, and inspecting commercial establishments.
The operation involved the State Police, Carabinieri, Guardia di Finanza, Fire Brigade, and local police forces from Milan and San Donato Milanese, totaling 312 officers. Drones also provided support. The Labor Inspectorate, Ferrovie dello Stato (State Railways), ATS, AREU 118, ATM, and AMSA also participated.
Significant Results from Integrated Intervention
In total, 1,446 individuals were identified, and 196 vehicles were checked, with 13 of them receiving sanctions. Inspections were also carried out in 18 commercial establishments, resulting in 15 administrative sanctions totaling over 20,000 euros.
During the intervention, various quantities of narcotic substances and cash were seized. AMSA was responsible for removing miscellaneous belongings and furnishings, totaling 6,000 kg of waste.
Prefect Emphasizes Continued Commitment
“Last night’s operation,” declared Prefect Sgaraglia, “confirms the effectiveness of the integrated intervention model defined by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Security, based on full collaboration among all involved institutions. Rogoredo will continue to be the subject of careful and constant monitoring, control, and oversight, with the awareness that combating phenomena of illegality and degradation requires continuity, determination, and presence in the territory. The goal is to consolidate the results achieved so far and to guarantee citizens increasingly safe, decent, and fully usable spaces.”
The Prefect’s statement underscores the commitment to maintaining and enhancing security in the Rogoredo area, ensuring that the efforts are sustained over time to address persistent issues of crime and urban decay.
The integrated approach, involving multiple law enforcement agencies and public services, is seen as a key factor in the success of these operations. This collaborative model allows for a comprehensive response to various forms of illegality and degradation, from drug dealing and irregular immigration to commercial irregularities and environmental sanitation.
The continuous monitoring and control actions are designed not only to address immediate concerns but also to establish a long-term deterrent against criminal activities and to improve the overall quality of life for residents and users of the Rogoredo area. The focus on commercial establishments, for instance, aims to ensure compliance with regulations and prevent illegal practices that can contribute to broader issues of disorder.
Furthermore, the involvement of services like AMSA for waste removal highlights the holistic nature of these operations, tackling not just crime but also the physical aspects of urban degradation. This multi-faceted strategy is crucial for creating a safer and more welcoming environment in public spaces.
The ongoing commitment to Rogoredo reflects a broader strategy to address similar challenges in other parts of Milan and Lombardy, where areas may experience similar pressures. The success of this model in Rogoredo could serve as a blueprint for future interventions in other urban contexts.
The authorities are keen to ensure that the positive outcomes of these operations are not temporary but lead to lasting improvements in public safety and urban decorum. This requires not only continued enforcement but also community engagement and preventative measures to address the root causes of degradation and illegality.
The collaboration between different levels of government and various agencies is a testament to the comprehensive approach being taken to reclaim public spaces and ensure they are safe and accessible for all citizens. The use of advanced tools, such as drones, further enhances the effectiveness and reach of these security operations, allowing for more thorough surveillance and intervention.
