Piazza del Plebiscito Colonnade Renovation: Executive Project Approved, Contract Pending Legal Judgment
Naples, June 18 – An important step forward has been made in the long-awaited renovation of the colonnade in Piazza del Plebiscito, Naples. The executive project for the restoration has been officially approved, with an investment of approximately 4.3 million euros. However, the formal signing of the contract with the selected construction company remains pending due to an ongoing legal challenge.
Key Meeting at the Prefecture
A crucial operational meeting was held at the Prefecture of Naples, coordinated by Prefect Michele di Bari. Participants included delegates from the State Property Agency, the Municipality of Naples, the Royal Palace, and the Italian Army. The meeting focused on the progress of the restyling plan for the city’s historic monumental heart.
“The local administrations are unblocking the executive projects related to the artistic enhancement of the Bourbon site,” stated a representative following the meeting, highlighting the collaborative effort to revitalize the iconic square.
Details of the Colonnade Restoration
The restoration project encompasses not only the colonnade but also the historic workshops located behind it, which are owned by the Fondo Edifici di Culto (FEC). The total investment for this phase is approximately 4.3 million euros. Authorities have approved the executive design of the semicircular structure and have completed the selection process for the construction company tasked with the work.
Bureaucratic Hurdle: Awaiting Legal Resolution
Despite the approval of the executive project and the selection of a company, the formal signing of the contract is currently on hold. Another participant in the public tender has filed a legal challenge against the bidding process. The definitive signing will only occur after a favorable outcome of this pending appeal.
Despite this delay, the institutions involved have reaffirmed their commitment, stating, “The Administrations jointly pursue the objective of restoring and enhancing the complex.”
New Monumental Lighting for the Square
Beyond the colonnade restoration, the comprehensive urban restyling plan also includes a dedicated intervention to transform the square’s nocturnal appearance. The Municipality of Naples has already initiated the preparatory procedures for the tender of a new lighting system. This project aims to create a new nighttime image for the facade, effectively expressing the historical and symbolic importance of Naples’ monumental space.
This initiative underscores the city’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage while enhancing its appeal to both residents and visitors.
