NAPLES, June 15, 2026 – Giuseppe Castagna, the Chief Executive Officer of Banco BPM, was awarded the prestigious Medal of the City of Naples by Mayor Gaetano Manfredi during a ceremony held in the city’s Council Chamber. The recognition celebrates Castagna’s illustrious career in the banking and high finance sectors, acknowledging his significant achievements and unwavering connection to his hometown.
A Tribute to Talent and Discipline
Mayor Manfredi presented the award as a “sign of deep admiration and gratitude from the Neapolitan community for the prestigious milestones achieved during his brilliant career in the banking and high finance sectors.” In his address, Manfredi praised Castagna, stating, “It is with profound pride that today we present the city’s medal to Giuseppe Castagna. His story is an example of how talent, combined with iron discipline, can lead to the pinnacles of the international economy and high finance. Castagna has always maintained an indissoluble bond with his Neapolitan roots and with the education received at our University. A manager esteemed everywhere, capable of garnering prestigious tributes in both Milan and Rome, he has never ceased to uphold the prestige of Naples and our community. This medal,” Manfredi added, “is a thank you from his native city.”
From Federico II University to the Apex of Banking
Born in 1959, Castagna began his academic journey at Federico II University, where he graduated with honors in law. From there, he ascended to the top echelons of Italy’s largest credit institutions, serving as general manager of Banco di Napoli and Intesa Sanpaolo before taking the helm of the Banco BPM Group in 2017. His career is marked by numerous accolades, including his appointment as a Knight of Labor in 2020 by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella.
