Rome, June 13 – A tragic incident occurred this morning on the banks of the Tiber River in Rome, where a man died after falling onto the embankment near Piazza della Rovere, in the heart of the capital. The alarm was raised around 7:00 AM when passers-by noticed a body on the ground and called for emergency assistance.

Man Dies After Fall into Tiber River

The man, identified as an Italian national aged between 40 and 45, was pronounced dead at the scene. According to initial reports, the victim is believed to have been homeless. Despite the rapid response of rescuers, there was nothing they could do to save him.

Investigation Launched by Carabinieri

Carabinieri from the Trastevere station quickly arrived at the scene to initiate preliminary scientific investigations aimed at reconstructing the exact dynamics of the event. Early witness statements suggest that the man was seen leaning over the staircase leading to the Lungotevere before falling.

Investigators, coordinated by the public prosecutor’s office, have not ruled out any hypotheses at this stage. They are considering both the possibility of an accidental fall and a voluntary act. To shed light on what happened in the early hours of the morning, law enforcement officials are reviewing and analyzing images from surveillance cameras in the area, which may have captured the moments leading up to the fall.

The body has been made available to the judicial authorities for further examination.

This incident adds to a series of recent unfortunate events in Rome. Earlier this week, a 23-year-old was hit and killed in Guidonia, prompting a search for the hit-and-run driver. In Campagnano, a charred body was discovered in the rubble of a fire, and an investigation into incitement to suicide was opened after the death of a 16-year-old student in the Castelli Romani area.

The authorities continue to work diligently to ensure public safety and investigate such tragic occurrences within the city.
