Lab Technician Arrested in Procida for Assaulting School Principal
Procida, June 11 – A 47-year-old laboratory technician has been arrested in Procida following an incident at the ‘Caracciolo’ nautical institute where he allegedly punched the school principal. The event unfolded late morning on June 11, during a grading meeting, not a teachers’ council as initially reported.
The suspect, employed at the institute as a laboratory technician, was accused by those present of attempting to record the meeting with his mobile phone. An altercation ensued, and local police from Procida were the first to arrive on the scene. They reportedly tried to calm the accused, who resisted, pushing some officers.
Subsequently, the technician, a resident of Afragola, allegedly turned his aggression towards the principal, Professor Maria Salette Longobardo, striking her in the face in front of witnesses. Carabinieri from the Procida station were then called to the scene. Following their investigation and necessary procedures, they arrested the man. He faces charges of ‘injuries to a school principal and unauthorized installation of equipment or means suitable for intercepting communications’.
As evening approached, the arrested individual was transferred by ferry to Naples, where he is currently held at Poggioreale prison. The principal, who was taken to the emergency room, received a prognosis of 10 days.
Carabinieri have seized several videos recorded by teachers present at the meeting with their mobile phones. These recordings will be used as evidence to reconstruct the incident more accurately as part of the ongoing investigation.
