Cassino, June 10 – A woman attempting to transport 210 grams of cocaine from Naples to Cassino by bus was arrested following a meticulously planned operation by the Financial Police, supported by specialized K9 units. The arrest took place a few days ago, but details were released today.

Undercover Journey Foiled by K9 Unit

The woman, of Moroccan origin, believed she could evade detection by traveling on a public bus. However, her plan was thwarted by the vigilance of the Financial Police Group of Cassino, led by Lieutenant Colonel Francesco Papale, who had set up targeted controls.

During the inspection of a bus returning from Naples, the anti-drug dog Gingo immediately signaled towards the woman, who was seated in the middle of the vehicle. A subsequent search revealed 210 grams of cocaine meticulously hidden in a shopping bag she was carrying.

Arrest and Judicial Proceedings

The seized narcotic substance has been impounded, and the woman was arrested in flagrante delicto, as per the directives of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Cassino. She was initially placed under house arrest.

The preliminary investigations judge (GIP) of the Court of Cassino, accepting the requests made by the Public Prosecutor’s Office, validated the arrest and imposed the precautionary measure of mandatory residence on the young woman. This legal step ensures that she remains within a specified area pending further legal proceedings.

Investigation Continues to Uncover Drug Network

The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to trace the drug’s supply chain and identify the distribution hub in Cassino, often referred to as the ‘Martyr City’. This effort aims to dismantle the broader network involved in drug trafficking between Naples and Cassino.

This operation underscores the continuous efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and ensure public safety in the region. The use of K9 units proves once again to be an invaluable asset in detecting illicit substances and preventing their circulation.

The authorities have not released further details regarding the woman’s identity or the specific location of the arrest, as the investigation is still active and sensitive information could compromise ongoing efforts to apprehend other individuals involved in the drug trade.

The Financial Police emphasized their commitment to maintaining a strong presence on public transport routes, which are often exploited by drug traffickers attempting to blend in with regular commuters.

This incident is part of a broader trend of increased vigilance and successful interventions against drug-related crimes in the Campania region and its surroundings. Law enforcement agencies continue to collaborate to disrupt criminal activities and protect communities from the pervasive impact of illegal drug trade.

The outcome of the ongoing investigation is highly anticipated, as it could shed more light on the intricate routes and methods used by drug traffickers operating between major Italian cities.
