Naples, June 7 – Major construction projects have recommenced across Naples today, affecting key areas from Riviera di Chiaia to Posillipo, and including strategic points such as Via Santa Brigida and Piazza Municipio. These works, some critical for transport infrastructure like the metro and tram lines, and others for electrical grid upgrades by E-Distribuzione, are expected to cause significant traffic disruptions. However, efforts are being made to mitigate the impact, with many operations scheduled for nighttime.

Strategic Works Resume Across Naples

The city is bracing for a wave of construction activities, with projects spanning from the Riviera di Chiaia to Via Posillipo, and encompassing Via Santa Brigida, Piazza Municipio, Corso Arnaldo Lucci, and Via de Giaxa. These initiatives are deemed essential for the city’s development, ranging from vital transport infrastructure upgrades, such as the Piazza Municipio metro station and the ‘sea tram’ line, to E-Distribuzione’s electrical system modernizations.

While disruptions are inevitable, the Transport Department has successfully negotiated for several key projects to be carried out during night hours. This includes work in the area around Piazza Garibaldi and on the preferential lane of Riviera di Chiaia, a move aimed at significantly reducing the impact on daytime traffic. Councillor for Transport, Edoardo Cosenza, emphasized the importance of these interventions while striving to minimize inconvenience for citizens.

Detailed Breakdown of Construction Sites

Let’s delve into the specifics of the ongoing construction projects across the city:

  • Riviera di Chiaia: Interventions on the preferential lane of Via Marina were expected to conclude today, with work on the preferential lane of Riviera di Chiaia, between Via San Pasquale and Piazza della Vittoria, now commencing. These works will take place from 9 PM to 7 AM, aiming to lessen the impact on daily traffic. The completion is anticipated by June 15, though the night-only schedule may extend this timeframe.
  • Via Acton: Construction of a kerb along Via Acton, specifically between Galleria Vittoria and Piazza Municipio, will proceed with a mobile construction site. This will allow for approximately 100 meters of advancement while maintaining two lanes of traffic in each direction. Simultaneously, the existing public lighting poles along Via Acton, from Piazza Municipio to the Stazione Marittima gate, will be replaced with mixed-use poles.
  • Piazza Municipio: The metro station construction in Piazza Municipio continues, leading to the closure of Via Santa Brigida at its intersection with Via Vittorio Emanuele III from today until the end of August. Consequently, Via Ruggiero Leoncavallo will have its one-way direction reversed, flowing from Piazza Municipio towards Via Santa Brigida, and Via Giuseppe Verdi will become one-way from Via San Carlo to Piazza Municipio.
  • Via Posillipo: E-Distribuzione will begin work along Via Posillipo, between civic numbers 290 and 38. Excavation will start from the secondary cabin near civic number 290, proceeding along the left sidewalk. These works will occur during daytime hours, advancing approximately 10 meters daily without interrupting vehicular traffic.
  • Piazza Garibaldi: Significant interventions are also planned for the station area. E-Distribuzione Spa will conduct excavation work in Via Galileo Ferraris, Corso Arnaldo Lucci, Via Giuseppe Pica, and Via Sigismondo Castromediano. The first phase, in Via Galileo Ferraris up to the intersection with Corso Arnaldo Lucci, will involve workers from 10 PM to 6 AM until June 17, with traffic remaining open.
  • Via De Giaxa, Via Manzoni, and Via Argine: From tomorrow until June 16, Via De Giaxa will be closed to cars. For ABC works, from today until Wednesday, work will be carried out in Via Manzoni, partly on the sidewalk and partly on the roadway, during daytime hours and without interrupting vehicular traffic. The same applies to interventions in Via Argine, which will continue until June 15.

These extensive projects underscore the city’s commitment to improving its infrastructure, albeit with a temporary impact on daily life. Residents are advised to plan their routes accordingly and stay informed about the latest traffic updates.
