Rome, June 2 – A 29-year-old Chilean man was admitted to Sant’Eugenio Hospital with a guarded prognosis after being brutally assaulted by a group of youths armed with sticks at a petrol station near the Fiesta nightclub in the Eur district. The incident, which took place in the early hours of yesterday morning, has prompted an investigation by agents from the Esposizione police station.
Brutal Attack Captured on Video
The victim was surrounded, insulted, and repeatedly struck with bare hands and sticks. The assault, which occurred near a car park adjacent to the Fiesta nightclub in Via delle Tre Fontane, was filmed by a witness on a mobile phone. The dramatic footage, which quickly went viral on social media, shows several young people cornering the victim among parked cars, continuing to beat him even after he had fallen to the ground.
Police were dispatched to the scene at 4:20 AM, but the assailants had already fled. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the petrol station to reconstruct the events and identify those responsible for the attack. The motives behind the punitive expedition remain unclear.
Another Episode of ‘Malamovida’
This incident marks another episode in a series of so-called ‘malamovida’ (bad nightlife) events that have plagued Rome in recent nights. Previous incidents include other assaults and the discovery of spiked bats under the Scalea del Tamburino in Trastevere, as reported by a local residents’ committee. The same committee, ‘Emergenza Trastevere,’ also reported the felling of a tree, possibly by nocturnal vandals, with the trunk broken in two.
These events underscore the precarious situation in nightlife districts, which are now the focus of the ‘Piano Notte’ (Night Plan) launched by the Municipality and Prefecture in recent weeks. The plan, set to become operational in early July, includes initiatives such as the deployment of approximately 150 tutors to assist young people frequenting Rome’s nightlife areas, who will be in direct contact with law enforcement.
Victim a TikToker and PR Worker
The 29-year-old victim, who is of South American origin, is expected to be interviewed by investigators in the coming hours to shed light on the facts. He reportedly identified himself as a TikToker and a PR worker in various nightclubs. Authorities are seeking to determine if an argument preceded the attack, leading to the pursuit and assault of the young man in the car park and petrol station.
This dramatic event echoes a similar incident from last year, also in Via delle Tre Fontane, where on July 24, a security guard known as ‘Chico’ was shot by a 34-year-old who had returned to the nightclub entrance after being expelled. Lorenzo Sagoni, nicknamed ‘Malavita,’ was sentenced to eight years in prison for attempted murder but remains at large. His accomplice, who helped him escape by car, received a four-year sentence.
Ongoing Investigation and Search for Assailants
The police are actively searching for the group of young people involved in yesterday’s beating. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities hoping to identify the culprits through video surveillance and witness testimonies. The incident further highlights concerns regarding safety and order in Rome’s nightlife zones.
The community and local authorities are grappling with how to ensure public safety while maintaining the vibrancy of the city’s evening entertainment. The ‘Piano Notte’ represents an effort to address these challenges, but the recent incident demonstrates the continued need for vigilance and effective intervention.
