Part of ‘Vela Rossa’ Collapses in Scampia, Naples: Families Evacuated
Naples, May 20 – A section of the ‘Vela Rossa’ building in Scampia collapsed yesterday morning, prompting the precautionary evacuation of 47 families. The regional Civil Protection system immediately activated to provide assistance to the affected population throughout the night and support on-site operations. Materials and equipment were dispatched to set up a temporary reception area and ensure adequate living conditions for the families involved.
Return to Homes Begins, Some Still Displaced
Citizens from the 47 families who were preventatively evacuated following the collapse at ‘Vela Rossa’ are progressively returning to their homes. Currently, some residents from Staircase F, totaling 49 people (31 adults and 18 youths), remain temporarily displaced. A portion of the citizens had been relocated due to a power outage caused by damage to the electrical cabin serving the area and were able to return once power was restored. Others, however, were unable to safely access their homes due to debris obstructing the building’s entrance.
Regional Civil Protection Provides Immediate Aid
Fiorella Zabatta, the Regional Councillor for Civil Protection in Campania, who personally monitored the situation at the Coordinated Rescue Center convened at the Prefecture, stated, “The regional Civil Protection system immediately activated to guarantee assistance to the population throughout the night and support activities on the ground. Materials and equipment were sent for the setup of a temporary reception area and to ensure adequate conditions for the families involved.”
Specifically, Councillor Zabatta detailed the provisions: “Six large and six small gazebos, 14 LED kits with electrical materials, 150 chairs, 10 folding tables, 50 blankets, a light tower, a wheeled generator, and a small generator were prepared and delivered. Drinking water and basic necessities were also provided to those who remained outside their homes. The situation continues to be constantly monitored, and we will remain by the families’ side until full safety conditions are restored and they can return completely,” concluded Councillor Fiorella Zabatta.
