Rome, May 3, 2026 – Carabinieri from the Piazza Dante company have arrested a 55-year-old Roman man after discovering a significant cache of weapons, including three pistols and stun grenades, in a warehouse. The arrest followed a suspicious observation by military personnel in a Rome neighborhood.

The Operation: Surveillance and Intervention

The operation began when Carabinieri noticed the man exiting his car and heading towards a local warehouse with suspicious behavior. After observing him inside the premises for a period, officers decided to intervene as the 55-year-old exited the building carrying a heavy bag.

Upon inspection of the bag, authorities were surprised to find an arsenal of loaded weapons and explosive material. This discovery led to the immediate arrest of the individual.

Weapons and Grenades Seized

The seized items included:

  • A Smith & Wesson .357 Magnum revolver with an obliterated serial number.
  • A Beretta 1934 pistol.
  • A Tokarev M57 pistol.
  • 61 cartridges of various calibers.
  • 3 “flash bang” stun and blinding grenades.

All materials have been impounded. The weapons, particularly the Magnum with the erased serial number, will undergo ballistic testing to determine if they have been used in any recent criminal incidents in the capital.

Ongoing Investigation into the Cache’s Purpose

Investigations are currently underway to ascertain the intended recipient of the weapons and whether the warehouse was being used as a regular storage facility for local criminal activity. The Carabinieri are working to uncover the full extent of this illicit operation.

This incident highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat illegal arms trafficking and ensure public safety in Rome. The swift action of the Carabinieri prevented these dangerous items from potentially being used in further criminal acts.

The arrested man remains in custody as the investigation continues. Further details are expected to be released as the case progresses and more information becomes available.
