Naples Controls: 200 Identified, 12-Year-Old Found with Knife

Naples, May 2, 2026 – On the occasion of May Day, Carabinieri carried out extensive controls across various areas of Naples, from Vomero to Chiaiano, and from Scampia to the “Baretti” of Chiaia. The operation, aimed at ensuring public safety and combating illicit activities, led to the identification of 200 people and the inspection of 71 vehicles. The comprehensive balance of the controls includes 13 individuals reported, 39 traffic code violations, and 4 reports for personal drug use.

Operation Details and Arrests

Among those reported were two entrepreneurs for illegal employment practices. One 44-year-old was found to be employing his underage son in his business. Additionally, seven illegal parkers were reported, including a 67-year-old and six Neapolitans who had previously been sanctioned for the same offense. These actions underscore the ongoing efforts by authorities to curb informal and illegal economic activities.

Weapons Seized, Including from a Minor

A disturbing discovery during the operation was a 12-year-old found in possession of a 15-centimeter knife. In another incident, a man was found with 18 grams of hashish and a 17-centimeter switchblade knife. These findings highlight concerns about weapon possession, particularly among minors, and the prevalence of illicit substances in the city.

Attempted Theft and Health Inspections

A Peruvian woman was reported for attempted theft after trying to steal clothing items from a shop. Furthermore, the controls extended to hygiene and health standards, conducted in collaboration with personnel from the ASL Napoli Centro. Out of three establishments inspected in the Chiaia district, all received sanctions. The total amount of fines levied exceeded 10,000 euros, and 215 kilograms of food were seized due to a lack of traceability. More than twenty non-compliance issues and prescriptions were noted, indicating significant deficiencies in food safety and hygiene.

Continued Vigilance for Public Safety

The Carabinieri’s operation on May Day demonstrates a proactive approach to maintaining order and safety in Naples. The wide-ranging checks, covering various neighborhoods and targeting different types of offenses, are part of a broader strategy to address crime and ensure compliance with regulations. The authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, promising further interventions to safeguard the well-being of the community.

The incident involving the 12-year-old with a knife has particularly raised alarms, prompting calls for increased attention to youth-related crime and preventative measures. Local officials and law enforcement agencies are expected to review the outcomes of this operation to inform future strategies for public safety and crime prevention in the region.

The extensive nature of these controls, from traffic violations to health inspections, reflects a concerted effort to improve the overall quality of life and security for residents and visitors in Naples. The collaboration between Carabinieri and health authorities is crucial in tackling multifaceted issues that impact urban living.
