Rome, April 14 – Three men have been arrested and charged with attempted murder after a 27-year-old man was severely beaten with a golf club and a cleaver in Rome. The incident, which occurred on December 28, 2025, stemmed from a road rage incident days earlier.

The Attack and Its Aftermath

The alleged perpetrators, identified as Giordano D.A., 20, Davide I., 36, and Daniel T., 25, were taken into custody following an arrest warrant issued by Rome’s preliminary investigation judge, Carmine Castaldo, at the request of Deputy Prosecutor Gianfranco Gallo. Giordano D.A. and Davide I. have been transferred to prison, while Daniel T. is under house arrest.

The investigation was led by officers from the Primavalle Police District. The events unfolded on December 28, 2025, when a police patrol from the Prati police station responded to a call on Via Flaubert, in the Quartaccio neighborhood of northwest Rome. A 27-year-old Roman man had been assaulted by three individuals armed with a golf club and a cleaver.

The victim’s condition was immediately deemed critical. He was rushed to Policlinico Gemelli in red code, suffering from head and leg injuries, including multiple fractures and a severe cranial trauma. Forensic police at the scene recovered a broken golf club and other evidence crucial to the investigation. The victim’s mobile phone was also seized. Analysis of these devices and witness testimonies revealed the context leading to the attack.

Road Rage as the Catalyst

The chain of events began a few days prior, on December 23, with a dispute over traffic on Via Cardinal Oreglia. One of the aggressors allegedly threatened the victim, inviting him to Bastogi to “settle the score.” The young man initially ignored the provocation, but in the following days, he began receiving intimidating messages and video calls via social media, containing explicit threats and insults.

The ambush occurred on the afternoon of December 28. As the victim returned home in the Quartaccio neighborhood, he was approached by a red Fiat 500. Three individuals exited the car: one armed with a cleaver, another with a golf club. Shouting “we will kill you,” they repeatedly struck him, first on the head, then on the legs, as he attempted to flee and call for help. The timely intervention of a resident, who screamed and broke a window, caused the attackers to flee.

Life-Saving Intervention and Ongoing Recovery

The victim’s parents and the witness provided immediate first aid, managing to stop the bleeding. The young man underwent delicate surgical procedures, including neurosurgery for a depressed skull fracture and orthopedic operations involving plates and screws to reconstruct his leg. He was discharged in mid-January, but his prognosis remains complex. The investigators’ reconstruction, supported by images and photographic recognition, led to the identification of the three alleged perpetrators.

This incident highlights a disturbing trend of violence escalating from seemingly minor disputes. Authorities are continuing to monitor the situation and ensure the safety of citizens in Rome.
