Three Arrested in Rome After Two Young Men Kidnapped, Beaten, and Forced to Flee Fifth Floor

Rome, April 6 – Carabinieri from the Roma Monte Sacro Company have arrested three Roman men, aged 34, 30, and 52, following an order of precautionary custody issued by the Rome Court, at the request of the Public Prosecutor’s Office – District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Rome. The three are suspected, in various capacities, of the crimes of kidnapping for extortion, aggravated personal injury, and illegal possession of weapons.

Investigation Initiated After Dramatic Escape

The investigation began in late February when an emergency call reported the presence of two young men trapped on the balcony of a building in Via Giovanni Palombini. Investigations revealed that the first victim, a 19-year-old Roman man of foreign origin, was lured to the apartment under false pretenses. Once inside, he was immediately immobilized with insulating tape. Under the threat of a pistol and after being beaten, the young man was allegedly forced by his captors to call his 22-year-old friend, also born in Rome, asking him to urgently join him at the residence, thus leading him into the same trap.

Brutal Assault and Desperate Escape

Once together, both young men were brutally assaulted, including with the butt of a pistol, in an attempt to extort 3,600 euros from them for an alleged debt related to damage to a rental car. The violent beating only stopped when the two victims managed to escape the control of their captors by climbing over the railing of the fifth-floor balcony and reaching an adjacent apartment, from where they called for help.

The intervention of the Fire Brigade and the Carabinieri allowed the young men to be rescued. They were subsequently transported to the hospital for serious injuries. Searches of the apartment uncovered evidence of the planned ambush, including balaclavas, cable ties, adhesive tape, and several blood traces. Thanks to photographic identifications and collected testimonies, the Carabinieri gathered a strong evidentiary framework regarding the role of the three accomplices and the use of a firearm during the assault.

Arrests and Legal Proceedings

During the execution of the arrest warrant, one of the recipients actively resisted the military, sustaining minor injuries before being brought under control and apprehended. After medical treatment at Pertini Hospital, the man was taken to Regina Coeli prison. The other two accomplices were placed under house arrest with the application of an electronic bracelet.

Context of Crime in Rome

This incident adds to ongoing concerns about criminal activity in Rome. Law enforcement agencies continue to work diligently to combat various forms of crime, including extortion and violent assaults. The swift action of the Carabinieri in this case highlights their commitment to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators to justice.

The victims’ families have expressed relief at the arrests and hope for a full recovery for the young men. The community remains vigilant, and authorities encourage citizens to report any suspicious activities to help maintain order and security in the city.

Further details regarding the ongoing legal proceedings are expected to be released as the case progresses. The investigation will continue to ascertain all aspects of the crime and ensure that justice is served for the victims.
