Naples Prepares for Unprecedented Tourist Wave
Naples, April 2 – The Campania region is set to welcome an estimated 600,000 tourists for the Easter festivities, with 400,000 expected to converge on Naples. This surge is part of a larger trend, as the city anticipates nearly 2 million tourist arrivals in April alone, a figure almost double that of 2025, signaling a consistent and structural growth in its tourism sector.
The tourist observatory of the Municipality and the Confesercenti study center have released these projections, highlighting a significant increase in international tourism, accounting for over 55% of visitors, with an average stay of three nights.
Economic Boost and International Appeal
Vincenzo Schiavo, president of Confesercenti Campania and national vice-president for Southern Italy, commented on the robust figures: “These numbers confirm the strong appeal of Naples and Campania and reward the commitment and intelligence of our tourism entrepreneurs.”
Naples’ accessibility has been significantly enhanced, with over 20 European airlines now operating direct flights to Capodichino Airport. This has fueled a substantial increase in international tourist flows, particularly from European markets. A remarkable 4,189 flights are scheduled to arrive at Capodichino in April.
Schiavo further explained, “The flows will affect the entire urban area, involving the historic center, museums, cultural sites, restaurants, and the waterfront. Naples is now recognized not only for its extraordinary beauty and millennial historical heritage but also for the quality of its hospitality, thanks to operators and entrepreneurs who represent a distinctive value compared to other international destinations.”
City’s Preparedness: Special Services and Task Force Initiatives
In anticipation of the significant influx of both residents and tourists during the Easter holidays, the inter-departmental Task Force of the Municipality has prepared a comprehensive program of extraordinary services from tomorrow until Tuesday. These services will focus on hospitality, street cleaning and hygiene, public order, security, public mobility, traffic management, and support for the numerous religious and cultural initiatives planned across the city.
The departments of Tourism, Hygiene and Green, Transport, and Municipal Police have implemented a strategy to address the needs of both residents and visitors. Targeted interventions are planned for areas with high concentrations of tourism, shopping, and pedestrian traffic, ranging from the historic center to Vomero and the coastline, as well as major commercial hubs.
Security and Traffic Management
Approximately 300 municipal police officers will be deployed, maintaining both fixed and mobile patrols to ensure security and manage traffic. On Easter Sunday, particular attention will be given to the waterfront, main pedestrian arteries, and places of worship, with measures to combat illegal street vending. For Easter Monday, a specific plan has been devised for areas such as Via Partenope, Via Caracciolo, Mergellina, Galleria Umberto, Via Toledo, Piazza Garibaldi, and Porta Nolana. Services will also be reinforced for the Napoli-Milan football match.
Public Transportation Challenges
Despite the comprehensive preparations, public transport services will be less efficient on Easter Sunday. Metro Line 1, the funiculars, and buses will operate until 1:30 PM, with services resuming briefly before 5:00 PM. This reduced schedule may pose challenges for tourists and residents relying on public transport during the holiday.
The city’s proactive measures aim to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all visitors while maintaining order and cleanliness amidst the anticipated record-breaking tourist season.
