NAPLES, April 1 – The Civil Protection of the Campania Region has issued a new yellow weather alert, effective from 2 PM today until 2 PM tomorrow, April 1st, for the entire region. This extension comes as a weather disturbance continues to affect Campania, bringing widespread precipitation, strong north-easterly winds with possible gusts, and rough seas with storm surges along exposed coasts.

Weather Deterioration and Temperature Drop

The meteorological conditions are expected to worsen significantly in the coming hours. The Functional Center indicates that the storms will be particularly intense during the evening hours today, with a localized hydrogeological risk identified.

Temperatures have already experienced a sharp drop. This morning, Mount Vesuvius was seen with snow not only on its summit but also at lower altitudes, highlighting the sudden change in weather.

Expected Impacts and Risks

The primary consequences of the heavy rainfall on the ground include potential flooding, rising water levels in rivers and streams, water runoff on roadways, rockfalls, and landslides, particularly in areas with fragile terrain.

Local municipalities have been reminded to activate or maintain their Municipal Operations Centers (COCs) and to implement all necessary structural and non-structural measures to prevent, counteract, and mitigate the anticipated phenomena, in accordance with their respective civil protection plans.

Public Safety and Monitoring

The Civil Protection also emphasizes the need to monitor public green areas and to ensure the proper maintenance of structures exposed to wind stress and wave action. Residents are advised to pay close attention to communications from the Regional Operations Room.

This extended alert underscores the seriousness of the weather situation in Campania, urging residents and local authorities to remain vigilant and take all necessary precautions.
