Carabinieri Conduct Coordinated Service in Rome’s Historic Center
Rome, April 1, 2026 – The Carabinieri of the Rome Center Company have intensified their efforts to prevent and combat widespread petty crime in the heart of the capital. In a coordinated territorial control service in the Historic Center, 5 individuals were arrested and 3 others were referred to the authorities. They are held responsible for various crimes against property and violations of precautionary measures.
These operations were carried out following strategic guidelines set by the Prefect of Rome, Lamberto Giannini, and endorsed by the Provincial Committee for Public Order and Safety.
Focus on Shopping Streets and Tourist Areas
The military’s attention was particularly focused on the main shopping streets of the city center. In Via del Corso, Carabinieri from the Rome Piazza Venezia Command arrested two Romanian citizens, aged 36 and 35, both homeless and with prior records. They were caught immediately after stealing a pair of sunglasses valued at approximately 175 euros from an optical store.
Two other interventions took place in Via del Tritone, at a store. A 59-year-old Algerian man was arrested by Carabinieri from the San Lorenzo in Lucina Station for the theft of clothing worth 300 euros. An 18-year-old Egyptian man, on the other hand, was reported on the loose for stealing merchandise worth 90 euros. The latter was also found in possession of approximately 13 grams of hashish and will also face charges for possession for the purpose of drug dealing.
The controls also extended to areas with high tourist traffic. In Via degli Annibaldi, Carabinieri from the Piazza Farnese Station stopped two Algerian citizens, aged 31 and 23, immediately after they snatched a bag from a Chinese tourist. The stolen goods were fully recovered and returned to the victim.
Furthermore, the Carabinieri of the Operational Unit of the Rome Center Company reported a 34-year-old Italian man caught in Via Agostino De Pretis with burglary tools, and a 34-year-old Romanian man stopped in Via Cavour, who was found to be in violation of a ban from residing in the Municipality of Rome.
