Global Sumud Flotilla Makes Stop in Naples, Resumes Gaza Humanitarian Mission

Naples, March 29 – The ‘Bianca’ vessel, part of the Global Sumud Flotilla, made a significant stop in the port of Mergellina in Naples yesterday, before continuing its journey towards Gaza. The ship, which departed from Livorno, is carrying approximately ten tons of ready-to-eat food as part of the ‘Spring Mission 2026’ – a renewed effort to deliver humanitarian aid to the people of the Gaza Strip.

Hundreds Gather to Support the Mission

On Palm Sunday, a ‘land flotilla’ gathered in Piazza Sannazaro to welcome and support the five volunteers undertaking this critical mission. Hundreds of people convened near the Luise pier, chanting ‘Bella Ciao’ and waving Palestinian flags, demonstrating strong solidarity with the initiative. The event saw participation from organizations such as the Freedom Coalition and Thousand Madleens.

Increased Tensions and Dangers Highlighted by Organizers

Organizers emphasized the heightened risks associated with this mission compared to previous attempts. “This time, it could be even worse: the geopolitical situation is more tense than in the past, and international attention has decreased. But we must not give up, because the illegal siege continues,” explained activists present at the event.

Souzan Fatayer, a Palestinian student at the University L’Orientale in Naples, spoke passionately at the gathering. “We are 25 students from Gaza, forced to leave our land and our loved ones. Thank you for your support. If this support had arrived earlier, perhaps today we would not be in this situation. I would like to be on that ship to greet my family: if it reaches Gaza, please bring them our affection.”

A Widespread Effort to Break the Naval Blockade

Dario, one of the five volunteers aboard the ‘Bianca,’ elaborated on the broader scope of the mission. “Currently, 78 vessels are attempting to reach Augusta, while others are in Barcelona.” He stressed the increased peril of the current undertaking: “In this time of total war, the mission is even more dangerous. It is an initiative that takes place everywhere, not only at sea. If governments do not act, we will. This time we must succeed.”

According to organizers, approximately one hundred vessels are involved in this renewed attempt to overcome the naval blockade and deliver much-needed aid to Gaza. The ‘Bianca’ arrived in Naples around 12:45 PM, signaling a determined step forward in this international humanitarian effort.
