Naples, March 26, 2026 – The traditional Interforce Easter Precept celebration was held yesterday at the Royal Pontifical Basilica of San Francesco di Paola. The Holy Mass was presided over by the Military Ordinary for Italy, His Excellency Monsignor Gian Franco Saba.
Centenary of the Military Ordinariate and Remembrance of Don Ciro Scotti
Welcoming the Military Ordinary at the entrance of the Basilica was the Commander of the Interforce Military Garrison of Naples, Admiral of the Squadron Vincenzo Montanaro, accompanied by the Dean of the XII Interforce Pastoral Zone of Campania and Basilicata, Don Claudio Mancusi. This year marks the centenary of the creation of the Military Ordinariate in Italy. During the liturgy, special remembrance was given to Don Ciro Scotti, a priest from Ischia and a military chaplain during the First World War, who is currently undergoing the process of beatification. Don Ciro Scotti is a significant figure in the history of Italian military pastoral care.
The celebration underscores the deep connection between faith and service within Italy’s armed forces, providing a moment of reflection and spiritual renewal for those dedicated to national security. The annual event serves as an important tradition, reinforcing community bonds among the various branches of the military and state armed bodies.
The presence of high-ranking military and religious officials highlights the importance of this event for both the Catholic Church and the Italian state, acknowledging the sacrifices and dedication of military personnel.
