Abruzzo Airport: New Flights to Milan Linate and Turin Caselle from November 1st
Rome, March 25, 2026 – The Abruzzo Airport is poised to launch continuous flight services to Milan Linate and Turin Caselle starting November 1st. This development follows the second session of the Service Conference on public service obligations, held yesterday morning in Rome at the Abruzzo Region’s liaison office. The conference, chaired by Abruzzo Region President Marco Marsilio on behalf of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, successfully defined the scope, parameters, and characteristics of the service to be activated under territorial continuity agreements.
“The Service Conference concluded positively, allowing for continuous connections between Abruzzo Airport and Milan Linate and Turin Caselle,” stated President Marsilio. “For the first time, Abruzzo has demonstrated to the State and the European Commission the necessity of overcoming a long-standing connectivity disadvantage that has penalized the region.” Marsilio highlighted that the State has already allocated over 5 million euros in the 2026-2028 triennial budget to guarantee the service.
Rapid Progress Thanks to Ministerial Engagement
The next step involves a ministerial decree, which will be followed by a tender managed by ENAC (Italian Civil Aviation Authority). “The objective,” Marsilio concluded, “is to have flights take off by November 1st, thereby strengthening essential conditions for Abruzzo’s socio-economic development.”
Umberto D’Annuntiis, regional councilor for Transport and Mobility, emphasized “the utmost commitment of the Ministry’s representatives who, thanks to their work, ensured an extremely rapid process and allowed us to define the broad outlines of the tender for carriers.”
Key Participants and Future Outlook
The Abruzzo Region was also represented by Director General Vincenzo Rivera and Chief of Staff Stefano Cianciotta. From Abruzzo Airport, President Giorgio Fraccastoro and Director Luca Bruni participated, alongside executives from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) and ENAC.
This initiative marks a significant step forward for the Abruzzo region, aiming to improve accessibility and foster economic growth through enhanced air links to major Italian hubs. The financial commitment from the state underscores the strategic importance of these new routes for the region’s development.
The Abruzzo Airport, located near Pescara, serves as a crucial gateway for the region. The addition of direct flights to Milan Linate and Turin Caselle is expected to boost business travel, tourism, and overall connectivity for residents and visitors alike. Milan Linate, being a key hub for business and fashion, and Turin Caselle, serving as an industrial and cultural center, will provide vital connections for Abruzzo.
The rapid progression of this project, from initial discussions to the finalization of service parameters, highlights a concerted effort by regional and national authorities to address the long-standing issue of territorial continuity. The focus on November 1st as the launch date indicates a strong commitment to swift implementation.
The tender process, managed by ENAC, will be critical in selecting the airlines that will operate these new routes. The success of these connections will be closely monitored, with the potential for further expansion of air services in the future, depending on demand and operational efficiency.
The Abruzzo Region has consistently advocated for improved infrastructure and transport links to overcome geographical challenges and integrate more effectively with national and international networks. This latest development is a testament to those ongoing efforts.
