Corviale: PNRR Interventions in Final Phase, Nicoletta Campanella Center to Reopen by March
Rome, March 17, 2026 – The construction sites for Corviale’s Integrated Urban Plan (PUI), backed by 57.8 million euros in PNRR (National Recovery and Resilience Plan) funds, are now in their conclusive stages. While the official completion deadline for all interventions is June 30, 2026, the Nicoletta Campanella center is slated for a full reopening by the end of March, and the ‘Incipit’ project spaces are expected to be handed over by April, as announced by the Capitoline Department for the Suburbs.
Meanwhile, energy efficiency works continue on Trancia H, alongside the redevelopment of the Piazza delle Arti e dell’Artigianato (Arts and Crafts Square) and interventions in the East and West parks. Last year, Municipio XI appointed a PNRR Commission. “During the sessions, we analyzed the program,” explained Valerio Garipoli, FdI councilor, “The objectives are to monitor the PUI interventions and the revitalization of the neighborhood.”
Nicoletta Campanella Center and the ‘Incipit’ Project
Works on the Nicoletta Campanella multidisciplinary center, which houses the Renato Nicolini library, the Professional Training Center, the Work Orientation Center, a playroom, a bar, and an auditorium, began on February 22, 2024. The complex, for which 12.9 million euros have been allocated, has undergone extensive renovation and now includes a gym, a small conference room, and new restrooms. Part of the PNRR funds was utilized to modernize the fire prevention system and for energy efficiency upgrades. The inauguration of the new spaces is anticipated by March.
Linked to the Campanella center is “Incipit,” a project designed to foster the development of small businesses. This new environment will occupy 900 square meters of a disused building on Via Ettore Ferrari. The Department for the Suburbs confirms that the works will be completed within the established timeframe (June 2026). Currently, only testing operations, the setup of furnishings and interiors, and the establishment of activities remain. The handover of these spaces is planned for April.
Two Parks and a New Square
“After the remediation phase, works on the West Park are currently ongoing,” stated Alberto Belloni, Councilor for Urban Planning of Municipio XI. “Delivery is also underway for the market area in Via Mazzacurati, the parking lot, and the play and fitness area beneath Trancia H, which belong to the East Park.” These two new green areas, developed on previously abandoned land, will feature children’s play spaces and will connect the neighborhood to the Massimi estate and the Casali valley.
The Integrated Plan also includes an allocation of 5.3 million euros for the complete redevelopment of the Piazzetta delle Arti e dell’Artigianato and the end of Trancia H. Architectural barriers have been removed in the square, with the most noticeable intervention being the demolition of the access staircase facing the Municipio XI headquarters. The area designated for commercial activities is currently being arranged. The complete reopening of the Arts Square is expected by June.
Energy Efficiency
Completing the picture are the 20.5 million euro interventions within Trancia H, managed by Ater. Building recovery and energy efficiency works are currently underway on the building. Three of the former condominium rooms will be transformed into a memory museum, a space for recreational and educational activities, and an area dedicated to cultural events. “The energy efficiency interventions are useful but not entirely conclusive,” noted Lega councilor Daniele Catalano, “The construction sites have not touched the four turrets where six families live. Discussions are ongoing with Ater regarding this. As for the green spaces and playgrounds, it must be said that the works have progressed slowly. We will bring this to the attention of the municipal assembly, especially regarding the works in the East and West parks.”
